I'm in the market for a 32"-40" LCD or Plasma. I don't mind which, as long as its 1080p. I've had a look at JB Hifi and they look fairly well priced. Anywhere else you'd recommend?

Second, from what I know Sony Bravias and Panasonics are the Ferraris of tv, but slightly more expensive. Are they the best brands, quality or value wise?

hmm this looks pretty good - http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/kogan-1080p-42-full-hd-lcd-tv-hd-tuner/

Do you know anyone who has them? I'm a bit suspect going with a little-known brand, but it says it has an LG Panel so that's what matters most.

Sony and Samsung are best for LCD, dunno about Plasma though. As for stores, you goto one and get their best price. Then goto another and ask them if they can beat it. Repeat a few times. Jb, Harvey Norman, Myer, Good Guys I found offered okay prices when I just asked what price they could do for me. JB was the worst, Myer and Good Guys were the best.

I got a sony, but went to DFO, checked out the prices there, then went to good guys and told them I'd take it....IF they could do it for that price...with 5 year warranty

have a look dtvforum.info - i found it to be pretty good source when i got our pioneer - managed to get a copy of a receipt from there and took it down to JB to price match which they did. Got our 50" plasma for $2600 when it was still selling for about $3500.

why do you want 1080P on a 32" TV? Even with a 50" 1080P vs. 768P is almost impossible to pick...

orbitor your'e a moron and don't get an lcd.

Try and pick up a 2nd hand or PDP gen pioneer, absolutely the best quality plasmas around. If you want to do more research there is a lot of computer places selling panels these days and they always have obscenely low prices. I know MSY sell some LCD's.

I'm not looking for a main tv hence only the smaller size. I'm looking for a second tv for my bedroom/playstation etc: which is why i'd prefer 1080p to take full advantage.

The 9th gen are amazing... integrated network. Except they are a bit out of a students price range.

That's my other problem at the moment. Although the PS3 can act as a media player if you have a box on the network running a compatible media server service. It was that or build a HTPC. Except I'd don't watch a record a lot of tv so i'm not sure how much benefit i'll get out of it.

Dick Smith are giving away a 'free' XBox 360 with any TV over $1,299.

This is at the full ticketed price, but still they are worth $350 and their prices are pretty decent to start with.

i googled kogan and the reports (on whirlpool) are not good.

Stick to a name brand. I really rate Samsung's service.

So what's a good LCD for under (around) $1,500? Panasonic?

Want one for the bedroom probs 37ish". I think 32" would be a bit too small.

hi, i'm 28 and have 6/5 vision, that is better than average.

I also have a 50" 1080P TV and am basing my opinion on that. Oh yeah, and scientific evidence regarding the acuity of the human eye.

You, on the other hand, have nfi.

Run an HDMI cable from lounge room? That's what I'll be doing, the sparky is going to run the HDMI cable through the wall. This will be connected to the 360 in the lounge room (the controllers go through walls so location of 360 doesn't matter) and the 360 is networked to the PC (again sparky already cabled this through walls).

Profit, with PC media and XBox action in bedroom (and lounge room) remote controlled with 360 controller. Although it's not all connected up yet (will be next friday) I expect it to all work as planned.

Not really. Cat 5 is cheap (about $1.00 metre?) and the stretch of HDMI will be <10m.

I said it goes through walls but it really goes under the house with just the access point (like power points) on the walls so it's pretty easy to install. We had the sparky there doing other stuff so I just asked him to do that so it's nice and neat.

Mind you, I haven't got his bill yet :/

spook my 2nd smaller TV I have connected to my PC (file server) with the old xbox running XBMC. Connection is via a wireless bridge and it works perfectly. Not for full HD stuff but the xbox doesn't play that anyway!

read the terms and conditions of extended warranties very, very carefully. salespeople at stores will lie through their teeth about what they will and won't do to get you to make the sale.

i work for an insurance company that underwrites/administers them and customers are always getting s***ty because they don't read the contract properly then get upset when they don't get what they want, threatening to go to ACCC/fair trading/TT or ACA. it's pretty lulz.

hey spook, there's a desktop model of the EEE laptops coming out soon, one of them would be brilliant as a media player, and probably be mountable to the back of a TV via some duct tape or other method.
