Your locked in a cave by a gate.

There is a water well.
A large jugg that holds 7L worth of water.
A small jugg that holds 5L worth of water.

The gate will open if you put 6L of water in the large jugg and place it on the pressure leaver on it.

Okay, i'm feeling a little dumb... i realise you can fill the large jugg with water, then poot the large jugg into the little jugg, leaving 2 litres in the large jugg, but there is no way to repeat this three times?

Jug

And, for the question,

Fill 7L Jug (7J).
Pour into 5J, leaving 2L in 7J.
Empty 5J, put the 2L in 5J.
Fill 7J, pour into 5J (leaving 4L in 7J).
Empty 5J, put 4L into 5J.
Fill 7J, pour 1L into 5J, leaving 6L in 7J.

This probably isn't optimal, but was the first thing that came to my head.

fill 5L
pour into 7L
fill 5L
pour into 7L - you now have 3L in the 5L jar
empty 7L
put 3L into 7L jar
fill 5L
pout into 7L - you now have 1L in the 5L jar
empty 7L
pout 1L into 7L
fill 5L
pout into 7L - you now have 6L in 7L jar

think that works?

I thought the same was as Taggs, N-Dude's looks faster though.

Are there mutant spiders or something coming to eat you, because that could be a determing factor in which methor to use.

If you asked me 5L and 3L jugs needing 4L I could tell you really fast, but I watch to many movies.

Fill 5L jug with some water and have a drink.

Take out mobile phone and call John Mclain.

Wait for him to turn up and rescue you.... with a vengence.

Steal underwear.

....

Profit!

That's an awesome puzzle, they should make Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson face such a puzzle in an action movie

I got this as an interactive email not so long ago! Was much more fun as a game.

Yeah, but that'd be s*** unless them solving it or not solving it would determine whether a bomb went off.

Actually, it'd have to be a bomb left in a pretty stupid location where there's no way it would last more then 90 seconds in New York without someone pinching it... like maybe on the spout of a fountain in a major park.

Might be a dumb answer, but can't you just sit the 7L jug on the lever, fill it up with the 5L, and then fill it up again until 6L?

The weight has to be exactally 6L or the Door BLOWS UP!
So pooring 5L into the 7L jug would obviously not get 6L becure you got eaten by the spiders.

haha thats kinda of clever. I was going to say theres no way of telling if it the jug has 6L in it or not but you wouldn't need to because the pressurised lever does that for you.

scooter it doesnt say that in the original puzzle.

The gate will open if you put 6L of water in the large jugg and place it on the pressure leaver on it.

Since nothing bad will happen if you get wrong. Put the big jug on the pad, fill it with 5litres and then slowly fill it until it opens... Next time be sure to include the pit of lions that you fall into if you get it wrong.

Scorp didn't you watch Die hard with a vengeance ? The solution for this was shown in one of the scene.

you could: ( for time :) )

fill 5L
pour into 7L jug
fill 5l and then fill 7l jug with it (three l in 5 now - mark that with your finger or soemtihng
fill 7l jug twice with the 3l mark

relies on having a marker or something similar though and not having to use two hands to fill a jug

nah opec, they had three jugs didnt they?

Spocks post was in relation to the similar Puzzel in Die Hard. Nothing to do with the OP.

Still cant see why you think the rest of us ("You guys") think we have a 3rd jug.
