Hey all, so I need to think up some movies I can get to play on my blu-ray player.
I was originally going to go Lord of the Rings, but its not freaking out yet! :|

I'd like to grab some "epic" movies, because I rarely watch a movie more than once, and I mainly watch TV shows anyway. But im getting a Blu-Ray player and thus want to watch a few blu-ray movies on it!

I am thinking like...matrix or die hard etc, anyone got any other suggestions?
Something actiony that'll look good on my LCD tv at 1080p!

Anything out recently thats worth a look? Yes there is heaps of sites out there with blu-ray movies, but i want suggestions of good movies! From what I've seen there is nothing that really makes me want to go "yes" ill buy that! Most are either old...or not worth the $10-20 bucks more to see in higher definition.

Edit: Anyone know of any Blu-Ray / DVD combo drives that are silver in colour? static ice has failed me, google has failed me. Looks like it's either black or beige :|

Planet Earth BBC documentary series is definitely very pretty on bluray... Other than that, maybe Casino Royale. Most bluray discs are made from an inferior transfer anyway and don't really look as good as they should.

yeah, sorry.

You need a plasma for something "actiony" to look good...

Batman. Adam West in 1080p.

As far as outright picture quality goes, documentaries and animated movies are where it's at. With action movies, I guess it depends what you like, I've recently watched the BluRay's of Batman Begins, Hellboy and AvP Requiem and thought they looked pretty good.

/edit: Actually in terms of movies that looked awesome in HD, Pans Labyrinth for me really stood out.

so you're saying you love the predictably woeful 'romance' scenes in the star wars movies? or do you just like drooling over an actress in the silliest costumes ever made? either way... that's gay! :D

i don't think natalie portman is ugly... she is very pretty imo. but so are 99% of actress's... that doesn't make me want to watch them in really really bad scenes. the scenes in ep2 & 3 of star wars with portman n that bloke that plays anakin are pathetic & imo detract from otherwise good action movies... but luckily the chapters are done really well so they can just be skipped past.

actually, since blurays are 24fps, its not ok.
120hz would be ok.

Stupid Australia. Bravias here are apparently 100hz, but the same model in the US is 120...

Yeah it is. There's 2 versions of it, the original version released was encoded with mpeg2 and looked s***. They then went a re-released it as a VC-1 encode which looked much better. I'm pretty sure the studio also had some deal going where if you bought the mpeg2 copy you could get it swapped over. One would hope the moeg2 version would be non existent by now but worth double checking if you do buy it.

Newer release movies that were filmed with HD in mind are the best IMO. Rambo would be awesome with a good sound system

Doesn't matter if it's 60hz or 100hz, anyone who votes plasma over lcd is a retarded c***.

I've noticed that older movies (more than 10 years ago) don't tend to look as good in BluRay. Clearly high quality, but the transfers don't look that good, so all you get is noise in the higher quality. Newer movies just look incredible... can't wait till I win lotto and get a good set up!

whats the audio bitrate of most blu-ray movies? I'm not into them yet, is it still like DTS and normal dolby modes or do they come with something better than 96k?
