I don't know how many of you had heard of this, but I just read about it today. It looks like a new Terminator movie has just started filming, set in the future at the start of the war. What really got me excited about it though, was that John Connor is being played by none-other than Christian Bale, and it's hard to be disappointed with a movie that stars Christian Bale.

Linkies.

So what is the big deal with Christian Bale anyway? Yeah, he's a good actor but people seem to blow their loads when they hear he's in such and such a movie. Also can't believe he's 34. He looks way f***ing older than that.

he's also from wales but does a better american accent than an american

hes just a good actor and does mainly quality moofies (with rescue dawn and harsh times being the only moofies that sucked that ive seen him in)

Hmm, see I reckon his American accent sounds way too fake. Same with Hugh Jackman but in saying that they are both good. Prefer Jackman way more than Bale though. Hugh Jackman rocks extremely hard.

It should just be 4 hours of Lena Headey and Summer Glau.

I don't care if they fight or just stand there for 4 hours, it would still be a good movie.

A few years ago he wasn't very well known, which was mind blowing to me considering how good he was. He chose his movies very well and is reaping the rewards as a result. Hopefully he won't now be in too many movies and ruin his appeal.

It would be good if Arnie was in it as the US military General he played in the T3 special features.

Bale is old school, I first remember seeing him as a kid in a Spielberg film, Empire of the Sun.

He looks a fair bit like the dude they cast as future John in T2.

This is the reason I think people love him so much, myself included. In my mind he's probably the best bet of any movie actor for a good film. Just great taste in picking scripts and an awesome actor.

Still, even with Christian Bale I'm having to cross my fingers extra hard to expect a decent film of this, hopefully they can pull the franchise back from the unpleasantness that was T3. But if Bale could do it with Batman, then I guess he can do it with this too...

I dunno, I must be in the minority then, cos I'm looking forward to this. I mean, even without Bale, I think it has potential to be very cool, Bale is just icing on the cake. Since I first saw T2 I've wanted some "Future War" movies from the Terminator franchise, and the episodes of the Terminator tv show set in the future just made me want a movie like that even more.

Yeah, I was expecting a few more people to be looking forward to this too. After than episode of The Sarah Connor Chronicles that was set in the future, I've wanted to see more of it.

I heard Arny signed over his "likeness" so we may see CGI Arny robots walking about.

SCC was very cool, and they have announced a new season too.. woot!

Not hard these days thermite. Every day I drove passed this sign for a car yard that was just a giant LCD panel displaying the advert. Must have been the combination of colours or something but as I saw it out the corner of my eye it made my eyes go all spastic I had to shield my eyes from it.

That's awesome.

Yeah, Bale in American Psycho did it for me. The movie that I watched and at the end said, "What a psycho." - oh...hang on... :-)

**EDIT**

What I didn't like was this story: http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2008/jul/22/christian.bale?gusrc=rss&feed=networkfront

But the charges were later dropped I believe.

Should be sweet! One of the appeals of Bale to me is his ability to be so emotionless so well. It really fit his role in American Psycho and Equilibrium, and also Batman to an extent. He's just really good at playing calm emotionless characters but can also be intensely emotional when required.

What I didn't like was this story:

Pretty sure that "assault" was verbal abuse, I read somewhere that his mum and sis hate his wife and were hanging s*** on her when he snapped and yelled at them.

A lot of people were saying Batman begins would be s*** and even Bale couldn't save the Batman franchise. Seems people don't like to learn from their mistakes.

deadlyf: The difference there is that Chris Nolan was a proven awesome director with s*** like Insomnia and Memento under his belt.

McG (pronounced Mc Jee, not like the Melbourne Cricket Ground) has directed music videos, a sports drama and the s***ty Charlies Angels sequel.

Expectations are a bit different here, but it's great that it's actually looking promising.

That looks great, like an actual war movie. I'm glad it's not like James Cameron's futuristic vision of blue darkness and smoke with tank tracks crushing old car bodies.

uh... yeh. You're talking about the one scene from the future in Terminator 2 that was shot at night? If so, yeh, this new footage is way different. Well, if you just mean most of the trailer happens in the day time.

I went to Universal Studios in L.A. a few years back and sat in their environmentally controlled cinema that had a Terminator-based feature showing. Holy f*** it was amazing having controlled cold wind blow through the cinema when the night-time Skynet chopper was flying by on the screen. Added such a harsh feel to match what was going on in the video, I wish all movies/cinemas provided that experience!

Do they have cinemas like that in australia? If so, at least showing good mini movies like that?

There is a tendency for these kinds of scifi movies to try and set everything at night to make it 'cooler' or 'scarier' or whatever. Look at Schumaker's Batman films from the mid 90's, it was always night time - didn't make sense, too cheesey.

All the future stuff I've seen in Terminator movies seemed very dark blue and smokey and only showing the bottom part of the larger machines. Of course it was probably due to budget constraints - you might be able to get away with a lot less when you make it dark and smokey.

Speaking of batman, the batpods look great in this one :D

Looks alright to me. Dunno why you're slagging off McG for. Christian Bale seems to only do good movies so if he's in this he obviously has some trust in the director.
