looking to buy a breadmaker and wondering if anyone has one and what its like
i thing i'm curious about is how do you add the water.. i know you can get timers and stuff and i'm after this as well but just need some good feedback on a brand looking to make 1/2 to 2/3 pound loaves and will be daily so it will need to be rugged |

As far as I am aware, you put the dough into the bread maker and a short time later a loaf of bread is ready. Seeing as you mix the water in at the dough stage, I would hazard a guess and say that putting water into the actual breadmaker probably isn't necessary. Except for washing it :)

You put all the ingredients in during the same stage (eg yeast, bread mix, water)... but you must be careful when putting the water in, it's meant to sit on the top above the bread mix.
i dont know our brand off the top of my head i'm sorry |

My Mum must have an old breadmaker then, as she mixes all the ingredients first THEN places it into the breakmaker .... Essentially I suppose she has made her breadmaker into an oven.
My apologies, I didn't know you were supposed to just dump the ingredients into the breadmaker then it does all the work. Although in hindsight, it IS called a breadmaker ... *takes his hungover arse back to bed* |

It normally take about 3 hours to make the bread. By the time the machine kneed's the mixture and allows it to rise then baking it. Tastes awsome. Plus you can make fruit loafs, rasin toast etc. |

The one we have is probably about 5, maybe more years old. With ours you put everything in the bread tin, unmixed, and just set the timer. Usually this means just bread mix, yeast and water. The newer ones have extra things that add ingredients at later points of the process, because what happens is things like even raisins just dissolve right into the mixture. They're very clever - we'd just put stuff in before we go to bed, then set the timer so it was ready just after 6am. The only thing with our model was that when the timer went off you had to make sure you opened to lid, otherwise all the condensation would create a mini-rainstorm-in-a-breadmaker, soaking your bread - but the new ones might even do that too.

breadmachines are for fags. real men do it by hand. Seriously there's something therapeudic about kneading bread. If you want a really basic recipe, get almost any of the Jamie Oliver books, he's got an idiot proof bread recipe that will do pretty much any bread product you want, loaf, rolls, foccacia, pizza base, etc etc.

+1 for making bread by hand. It's not hard. You only need about 5-10 minutes to mix the stuff together and like 10-15 minutes of kneading.

I've been thinking about buying a breadmaker for a while actually. I f***in love bread, especially fresh bread. What is a ballpark cost for a decent one of these?

well i thought they were going to be really expensive but its not too bad
for me 50-200 euros with individual gourmet bread mix for about 1 euro or we can go to a mill and by bulk cheap ass mix its extra good if you cant get to a shop daily to buy day old bread.. i'm happy to pay an extra 50 cents a day to have fresh bread every day |

i just made a fresh loaf by hand today it tastes so good, Trog is right nothing beats the taste of fresh bread. why do people continue to buy the mass produced s*** the stores all sell? homemade bread is definitely way better.
