Hey all,

I have a client who wants to do video conferencing between himeself and multiple clients (maybe up to 4 or so). Now i know MSN Messenger and Skype will do 1 on 1, but looking for something that does more. I see there are sites online you ocan pay for this service, but wonderred if there are any apps that do this or servers you can run on your own network.

Cheers

We've got 6 or so Tandberg 990's through our organisation, 1 here, 1 in LA, 2 in Canada, and 2 in San Fran. They're about $10-$15k AU a unit and are good for a full boardroom and have near perfect resolution/compression over as little as 700kb/s.

Be warned though the tandbergs ARE expensive. and there are several alternatives, polycom are the other major player in the video confrencing market. But sony also have a good product.

And be VERY careful when you decide how you want to do it. Over the phone ISDN gets expensive, quick.

Don't forget to compare the cost to the cost of actually flying over to do face to face meetings as well :)

We use a Polycom thing between our offices hooked up to a TV - I'm pretty sure it works over ISDN so the quality is pretty good.

Oh yeah, don't do it over ISDN, over IP is great. You could probably get away with an okay signal over a 1.5 ADSL, certainly ADSL2+ should be good for it.

Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world

Thats how we justified the 13 - 15, thousand our polycom cost. It's for confrences with london and sydney, and one trip to london including accom is about 10 - 12 grand, so it's almost saved on one meeting.

I wonder if talking about "The Fountain" would work with getting our inter-office links upgraded to phat 100Mbit PipeNetwork jobs.
