Now, this was on GAF, I'll just link to the thread since they set out the links so nicely.

I really like the way the game looks but I saw some previous footage where he was speed-running and then jumping 10m into the air, and couldn't help but think it was a little ... silly and unrealistic. Might have expected that from say Quake or Unreal Tournament, but not Crysis.

I mean why go to the excruciating effort of making the map/world just immensely detailed and realistic, and then make the player movements completely unrealistic?

Here's what I'm referring to (about half-way into the video):

Seems to me the idea is superhuman type soldiers. Why wouldnt you be able to go into super strength mode and kick some ass?

Meh , Bring on TF2 already

So only ultra-realistic military simulations are allowed to have good looking graphics now?

I do know, but it doesn't invalidate my point.

Why bother with small detail (individual leaves, etc) when one is going to be sprinting/jumping too fast past it to notice?

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that it's like messing with the speed and gravity settings in Quake or Half-life. Fun for a while, but you might be craving some 'normal' physics after a while, otherwise it half feels like godmode or something.

The difference is Crysis has been designed from the ground up to cater to these playstyles (super speed and super strength and whatever); its not hax that you're turning on to play the game the way it wasn't intended. And you dont have them ALL the time, they're abilities you can switch on and off and use to give yourself advantages in different situations. I don't know the exact details, but I'd assume theres some kind of energy meter that limits how long you can use those abilities for too.

From the developers (courtesy of that Neogaf thread):

We want the suit to really encourage different ways to play but the last thing we want to do is make you an invincible superhero. The goal is more Six Million Dollar Man rather than Superman.

^ Alright, well I'll sit back and see how it turns out.

The video just looked gumby where he's randomly uber-jumping in and out of the fire-zones and killing people while flying in midair. Hopefully there's more to it than that .. as I absolutely loved Far Cry :)

This game wouldnt seem so cool if it wasn't for the badass nano-suit.

I can't wait to see the invisibility mode.

That first trailer did look pretty bloody good, I especially like the explosions and 'destroyability' it seem they have in the environments. Always did tick me off when you drove a big arse vehicle into a tin shed and it didn't move an inch. :) when is this due out? It might be a reason to get a dx10 card(s)
