From valve:

Half-Life 1108 Update Wednesday

The Half-Life 1108 update, which includes the new spectator and voice technologies, will be released Wednesday, September 19, at 11 am PST. Counter-Strike 1.3 will be released at the same time. Those interested in mirroring the files should email mirrors@valvesoftware.com.

From csnet:

Counter-Strike v1.3 will be released Wednesday for both retail and mod versions. If you would like to mirror the files, please e-mail me with your name, icq number, the web site you represent, and information about your connection/bandwidth. You must have at the very least a T1. We are looking for permanent mirrors only. The file will get a huge amount of traffic, so please only inquire if you are serious about mirroring.

Heh, thanks. I find it funny, because one of the Valve dudes also sent through this at the bottom of his announcement:
Please don't post this to any news sites, as things could change with the
release if something comes up at the last second. This e-mail is just so you guys can be ready for tomorrow and the rest of the week.

At least valve are allowing people to mirror the files, instead of stupid GreyMatter and Activision and Gamespot.

I stopped at version 7.1
It got boring, I played DoD for a while and I think that at their respective ages DoD was or is better than CS was!

However this is not really fair because CS pioneered the whole Halflife mod thing (To the mainstream anyway)

I reckon there is going to be a huge influx of players for a while. All the people who whinge about the bugs, and the cheats will install it again and give it a whirl just in case it's gotten better. Of course they'll all use fake names so they can deny that they were playing :)

im not looking that farward to it because every new release is said to be a fix, yet it gets worse and worse and worse and more s*** ppl play, and more and more -and more.
more bs is introduced as it is taken out. it wont surprise me if it gets even worse, however, it can't really get that much worse than what theyve made it, seriously if they had an understanding of how things work there wouldnt be a problem, there wouldn't b a s***load of skilless ppl playing it all of a sudden.

this is what wont be fixed:
s*** ppl getting better overnigh
cheating
gay netcode
sticky bullets

those are the worst problems, and theyre wasting their time on some voice comm crap.

suppose it did work and all was good like the earleir releases, ur gonna see alot of names dissapear.

meh

Element, that's client side prediction you're bitching about. It's not a 'bug' it's a feature to help people like me, who don't want to spend thousands of dollars on an internet connection just to play online.

its a bug, the concept is good, but dont count on it making the game good, it introduces s*** loads of problems....its far from completion. think of it:
theoretically the only way to play in an even 0 ping atmoshpere is either lan, or drag everybody elsees pings to the lowest guy.

ie.

because of ping ur about 1meter (depending on ping) behind on ur attackers view than what you are on ur view. if ˙ou go around a corner, to them ur actually not around it yet. when you get shot the netcode drags you back to where they see you, the lower the ping the further you get dragged back. simple?
no matter what youl always play in a 200 ping environment, lucky for you, this pisses of who ever you shoot by draging them back to ur level. therefore in theory if i were to get shot by a 200pinger, the server would have to make you goto 200 ping to compensate.

also this netcode has "prediction", on their screen they shot you in the head it wont register as a headshot. downlaod that map that shows the bugs and youll see what i mean.

you would understand what im talking about if you played the earlier versions without the new netcode.

nevertheless trying to create a netcode that doesnt rely on pings is imposible. this is where all the bugs are so dont embrace it as if it were a miricle cure, it makes the game that bit crappier.

element, but then by your reasoning dont you get 1m's worth of time when you can see them but they cant see you? and you can shoot them but they cant see you?

Even with lag compensation, people with lower pings have an advantage.
And you can even turn it off on the server if you don't like it.

ahh.. how did you find out i cheat... hmm, sigh
might turn all cheats off.
\wallhack off
\aimbot off
\spec mode off
\god mode off
ok.. no more cheating for me... =/

Goa'uld i don't think you'll be able to find a cs server with client prediction turned off...
Goa`uld!

That's because people love it so much. I know I do.

no matter what youl always play in a 200 ping environment

This kind of implied that you have a virtual 200 ping on lans with client prediction on... even though I have never experienced this, if you find client predicition adds latency, and you're on a lan... turn it off, becuase it isn't really needed there (nor will it have any significant effect).

and theyre wasting their time on some voice comm crap.

being able to communicate with teammates in a match is of great importance.

I'm hoping voicecomm (and varients) becomes a regular feature in all decent mp games.
