Dates: 8th and 9th October.
Meeting Place/Time: 8am - Big Ass BP Servo with food outlets and stuff, has one complex on each side of Bruce Highway a few minutes south of the Caboolture turn-off - *meeting at the one on the west side of Bruce Highway* (that's your left if you're heading nth toward the sunshine coast out of brisbane, noob!)

Cost: $70 (2 x $35 per 24hour park entry)

Who's Going?

Jim - Patrol
Obes - Jimny, may be late saturday is having sex.
Stinky - Subaru o' Death
SirGollum - Ford Maverick
Shane - Subaru Leone
Fuknukle - Asia Rocsta
Rancid Faeces Boy - If he gets a car in time.
Tonka Tuff - baby poo yellow Patrol.

Itinery: being that you pay for 24 hours, it may be worth checking a few 4x4 spots ( Bribie Is, Kennilworth Nat Park, Glasshouse mountains, etc ) on the way up and make it nice and leisurely getting to LCP mid afternoon ( giving us till mid afternoon sunday ). Alternatively we can just pay for 48 hours and get there early saturday AM.

Bring: Camping Gear, Cooking Gear, Recovery Gear, Firewood, Stuff. Oh and a 4 Wheel Drive!

My patrol gets better mileage than the family falcon, even off-road - and has at least twice the fuel-carrying capacity even with the standard tanks. At worst I'll get 900k's out of them, but thanks anyway!

Don't mean to derail the thread, but obes needs to be a 4wd like this one.

I'll try and make it to this trip.

Guys, we need to make a decision what we're gonna do.

1) Arrive @ LCP at 10am ( or earlier ) saturday, do the full day, overnight, and stay till mid afternoon. that will require paying 2 x $35

2) Do some 4x4'ing on the way to LCP, get to LCP mid arvo, quickly set up camp and go for a play, then stay till mid afternoon sunday. pay 1 x $35. ( kennilworth state forest, bribie island, etc )

Gollum reckons LCP needs two solid days, so suggests option # 1.

10-12
I have to do a fair bit of sand driving before it'll go near those high 11's too

have you recorded each tank and the k's you got from it since you bought it in order to work that average out though? it seems really hard to imagine a 4-ish litre 6cyl consistently getting 11-12. I jot the numbers into fuellog.txt in my mobile before I leave the servo.

Hey Guys,

I found my old cruiser park map last night and did a very quick scan...

Can found be here..

http://www.monster4x4.net/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=2452

On looking at the map, i thought i might try and make up some courses for us to do.

Oh btw, if Cruiser park is still like last time i went, the Std cars 'really' dont wont to be doing anything harder than Orange. And im not particularly sure anyone without lockers and plenty of body protection should venture into the red stuff.

also ive asked around, and unless its quite it has been advised to NOT camp in the designated camping grounds (Too many possible d*******s, and just drive to the showers when needed)

Ive been told this
"drive to the start of claw george and just past jims jump up in the clearing on the left hand side!!!"

Which 'does' look like a pretty easy spot to get to. But ive just assumed a camp spot for bellow.

Anyway heres my ideas on some possible courses.

Possible Camp and Cowah Falls.

Down to Telecom Hill for warm ups :)
Down to Saltshed Rd
Up Rocky Rd
Right into Yelburn Rd
Up to the Rain forest.
Left to Rav Ridge
Maybe TimberJack hill ?
Back to camp via Prado Pde.

Camp.
Down Club Rally circit to the Pig Pen. (MUD MUD MUD)
Down the Claw Gorge
Up Hawkins Rd
Up Top davidsons Rd
Down Diaper Rd to Camp. Maybe play on some of the hard climbs on the way back.

Camp.
Down Tarago trail.
Left to Camp Rd
Onto Hawkins Rd
Onto Lower davidsons Rd (Not sure of we will get past the red stuff)
Do Toyota Trial
Left to Frying pan Rd
Follow frying pan rd down
Right on kinds rd
up to Cooper Corner.
Maybe do hard climbs (Hilux hills / The Claw)
Back to camp.

Let me know what ya think.

Thanks

Glen.

Do you know whether they allow dogs in the park? I noticed dogs in a couple of the promo shots at the site but I couldn't see anything in the wording. I've got a pair of little furballs that I'd have to bring.

I managed to find 2 new (to me) 4wd parks one near warick and 1 near woodenbong, 2 new (to me) national park trails spicers gap & condermine river gorge and Girraween NP. I also did a bunch of trails we didn't do at Sundown. ps. Total fire ban at Sundown.

I was just tired of driving, I did some 1200 k's in 4 days. Besides had to go be morale support for someone.

Three important things I learned @ Condomine Gorge :

1. Never go down sidetracks @ condomine gorge ... cars fall over if you do.

2. Never jump in a friend's 4x4 and think "we're only going up this little hill i won't put the seatbelt on".

3. When you and Gollum are in said friend's 4x4 and Gollum suddenly looks scared and hops out of the car it means you only have about 10 seconds before lesson's 1 and 2 are learned.

Yeah we did the same thing, so we turned around and went back the other way and Gollum said the fatal "Hey, let's go up that track off the side there!" It was nothing tough, just a n00b driver.

Looks like fun, but really dry too. How hot was it? Between predicted 37 degree temps, hangover and no money I thought being a wuss was a good idea.

Sometimes suby's have a slight issue with ground clearance, so in order to get up some hills they need to take a run up and hit the hill at speeds of 80kph or more. This has the effect of launching the car into the air so it can clear a mountain top and gracefully come to land on the other side.

So to answer your question: basically what you see there is shane looking out the passenger window to see if he could see his house from up there

Scare the s*** outta me why dont ya! lol

yea nice work fellas thx heaps for that :D, im sooo dieing to go back out somewhere now.

I figured out what that dam rattle was -the exhaust, the metal mounts had cut through the rubber inners holding the rear muffler up, so i unbolted them and no more rattle :) the muffler is being held up by the rest of the exhaust on the nonbolted swaying rubber mounts. i'll sort some rubber out later on.

im gonna fit a snorkel, they're fukin expensive just for a piece of plastic $100-$300(second hand-ebay etc) fuk that so found this snorkel head which i'll use with some PVC pipe and flex pipe to the air cleaner after cutting a hole in the side of the bonnet. should be good.

yeah need a november trip somewhere, maybe fraser island or something. probably not a lot in the way of 4wd challenges but at least there'd be no shortage of cold water at this stinking hot time of year =]

what's the best way to rip video+sound from a dvd into a format that people don't need a bunch of codecs and crap installed to be able to view them? the guy who filmed that stuff put it all on a dvd for me

Did anyone get up that hill the Yellow Patrol was struggling with? I assume that's the one that killed the Ford? I take it from watching those movies that wherever there was a hard obstacle they had an easy way around as well? After watching a few of the movies I wish I'd gone after all.

Fraser would be nice, especially if there are as many Europeanpean backpackers as the last time I was there :) Pity the last trip I did had a massive storm in the middle of it. Actually snapped the poles on my mates dome tent and tore it to pieces. We were camped just off the beach and it washed away over 6 feet of sand in one night.

BTW, the sound worked for me. It's windows audio 10 I think. I have the KLite Mega Codec pack installed. I know people don't like these all in one packs but I've never had problems with it.

nah only the mav and yellow patrol tried it, I didn't give it a try in my patrol since I know the mav and other patrol both have front and rear lockers and I don't have any in mine yet - so short of some fluke I wouldn't have gotten up either. and yeah that's the hill that the mav snapped an axle on. as usual it looks totally tame on camera

Actually the outside video of the Patrol looked pretty cool, dust everywhere, thumping, swearing. Gave a pretty good idea.

So that was one of the hills they mark as "difficult" wasn't it?

nah no one else, i whimped out it was really narly, the vid really doesnt give much of anything justice(for eg. my Rocsta is accually a monster truck)

huge arse lips and ruts and ridges up that hill there.

You got the green rocsta?

BTW, what was the video camera? It was kinda like watching a 4WD version of Blair Witch :) I take it it was an old one with no image stabilisation.

The Roctsa seemed pretty good. Not as grunty as the Patrols but it coped pretty well. Does it have low range?

heh it's a completely suprising vehicle, seems to be as rugged as guts and pretty hard to stop. not bad at all for what is essentially a jeep knock-off, in fact it completely surpasses the status of being just a copy of another car.

Yeah it is a surprise. My neighbour has a Roctsa and it looks like the bastard love child between a suzuki and a jeep. Not quite as tough as a jeep but not as girly as a Sierra ;) After watching those vids though I've got a lot more respect for them. Especially considering (I assume) that Fuknukle's Rocsta is stock standard. Looks like with just a little work it'd make a tough little, go anywhere 4wd.

yea needs more mud ;)
yea its stock, sagged springs need a reset etc. open front diff and rear lsd(thinner oil) make sure at times you gotta pick a good line
and those are road tyres at 30 psi heh.

Its got quite a good low range, most of that footage is in low range 2nd or 3rd, 1st is unstallible which is great for those hardcore climbs where a run up just wont do the trick or too predictible.

while its got nothing much done atm, ive got couple things planned/doing.
i'll do a spring over conversion or settle for getting someone to reset my springs(i got no idea how to reset em)
weld in bash plates-front and gearbox,
make a snorkel,
install aircon
maybe air compressor tho ive got no lockers to run em on but airtools

nothing major like huge ass lift tho the spring over will give a fair lil bit.
ive only done lil s*** so far such as;
water proof electrics(working on airbox)
full service such as air cleaner, oil/oil filter, redo spark plug gaps, regrease all joints and hubs etc.
clean and check for rust(nothing cept for 2 lil spots of rust stain which is from steel pins in the rear door.
adjust hand brake
and ive finally fixed the rear brakes(drums where covered in diff oil).
i got a workshop to put in a new diff the old seals leaked and diff dried up. so got a lsd put in. im gonna put thinker oil in it tho, so it doesnt slip as much.

thats all i can remember atm

Sounds good. It looked like it could use a little more height. Redoing the springs might give you enough. And bashplates are a must. I've got them on my Rodeo and they've saved my arse a couple times. If you plan on beach work make sure you get it rust proofed too. Not the fisholene though that is rank! Sure it works, but it's foul and takes ages for the smell to clear up.
