Just saw this posted over at my clan forums and thought i would link you ladies and gents incase you havn't seen it before (no date on the page so im not sure how old it is).
That a couple guys built this thing in their back yard and tested it is pretty incredible. I'd love to see it when it's 100% complete ... anyway Enjoy |

Wikid man... Do you think you could ask your Clan buddy to release the code? I would like to take a look at it, wanting to do something similar but for games.

Who knows, depends on his sofware design. It might need an object of significant size to lock onto so leaves moving wouldnt be big enough..

Agreed Party, that would be a bit of a problem and would need a lot of testing to iron out if it is possible at all.
But i assume it's best use wouldn't be out in the open but in guarding facilities such as weapons depots on the rear lines in a warzone to free up soldiers for the front line. They could have a bunch of them set up in different places with a control centre with vid screens watching what the turret sees and deploy a response team to any location to clean up whatever the gun doesn't saving on possibly dozens of guys standing around doing nothing for the entire war. Still who knows what they might be able to get it to do if the guy actually lashes out on some decent equipment or gets some backing from a experimental weapons development company (Of which there are litterally hundreds in the USA). |

From playing many computer games with sentry guns, I gather they are not that useful. Since they dont move you always know where they are once spotted. Once you know where they are then it would be trivial to 'fix' it.
One would expect that if you had reason to be in a place with a enemy sentry gun, then you would have various means at your disposal of fixing it. As the more valuable the place with the gun gets, the better the sentry gun tech would be. As would the tech of the people being in places they shouldn't. So you would think that having a guard(s) would be easier and better. Whacking your sentry gun on a moving robotic platform with other bits'n'pieces is another story.. |

That was awesome.

Once you know where they are then it would be trivial to 'fix' it.But toll, in real life, once you find out where it is the first time, you don't just lose 20 HP from being hit by it.... you die. Oh and there's no quickload : ) |

Plus if your security is crap enough to let in your enemy to have a squiz at your patrols locations and rounds your just as screwed.
These things never get tired or slack off the job :) |
