Did you mean a chain that makes the wheels turn round?

Or did you mean a chain style bikelock?

I mean a drive chain, the one that makes the wheels go round.

~$50, probably less depending on the sort of bike you acquired

I'm not really familiar with bike chains. Do they come in different sizes or anything? Or do you buy them at one size and adjust them? I've never had to change the chain on a bike before.

Just take your bike to a bike repair/store tomorrow. They'll tell you exactly what you need. It's really really quick and easy to wack on a new chain, they probably wont even charge you for anything cept the cost of the chain.

Half decent chain you'd be looking at -

~$20 for a pushy

Mooby is on the ball
~$80-100 for a moto is about right

Obviously if you want top of the line s*** its gonna cost more, but I don't see that happening for a freebie :)

don't skimp on the chain man. it'll snap mid pedal, whip around, hit you in the ass then wrap around your leg & pull you the f*** off the bike!

if tis for a motobike should REALLY get new sprockets at the same time.
unless its not that hardcore of a moto then eh chain will suffice

if its a bmx then just replace it for around $20-30, if its for a mountain bike then you need to use the same chain model if the cogs are very worn in or even replace the lot.

It's a top notch mountain bike that's only a year old. The chain is just a bit rusty.

put oil on it... u can buy chain spray from garages and shiz, shell usually have them
spray it on and it sticks to it.

tho it depends on how bad it is but 99% its just surface rust that looks bad but isnt

Negative, that will get dirt etc clinging to the chain, making horrible black s*** all over your chain and sprockets, the dirt will also do a good job of flogging everything out. use a graphite lubricant, go to a local bike shop and they will fix you up with the right gear for the job.
Make sure you clean your chain reguarily too. I spose its not very important if you ride on the road but my mountain bike gets f***ing dirty even with partial cleaning and lubing most rides. Just got some citrus action in there and the white foam turned to black as s***. Now its time for some crazy synthetic teflon/something lube. The best stuff you can get dries out completely and leaves a chain that most really dry things wont stick to. This is what you want.

Yeah you should always lube before going for a ride on the "dirt track".

Ever thought of learning to f***ing read? At least I have the social skills and common sense to know not to call a bike shop at 2:25am. I was bored late at night and thought I'd ask some QGLers for some advice. It's a discussion forum, and most people are decent enough to help out somebody with a question as long as they don't pose it like a retard or be a whinging bitch about it (i.e. Gol/Jem). There's also the factor of not wanting to get conned into buying something I don't need or want by a slick salesman.

Thanks for all the info guys. Pillsy, think then talk.
