Attention anime fans!!
Director, Hayao Miyazaki, who won a Best Animated Feature Oscar for Spirited Away enhances his legendary reputation as one of the world’s most visionary filmmakers with his amazing new animated adventure, Howl's Moving Castle, brimming with imagination, humour, action and romance.

In a sort of quasi-European fantasy setting where war rages and sorcerers and witches abound, Sophie (voiced by Emily Mortimer), an average teenage girl working in a hat shop, finds her life thrown into turmoil when she is literally swept off her feet by a handsome but mysterious wizard named Howl (Christian Bale). She is subsequently turned into a 90-year-old woman (now voiced by Jean Simmons) by the vain and conniving Wicked Witch of the Waste (Lauren Bacall).

Embarking on an incredible odyssey to lift the curse, Sophie encounters a scarecrow on the move that she names Mr Turnip. He helps her by supplying her with various things, including a home, which turns out to be Howl’s magical moving castle where she becomes acquainted with Markl (Josh Hutcherson), Howl’s apprentice, and a hotheaded fire demon named Calcifer (Billy Crystal) whose flame keeps the castle moving. Sophie’s love and support come to have a major impact on Howl who flies in the face of orders from the palace to become a pawn of war and instead risks his life to help bring peace to the kingdom.

This has been released at cinemas today and looks to be a real kick-ass movie to go and see. Empire gave it something like 5 Stars and an awesome review so if you're a fan of the Studio Ghibli stuff then you should go and check this out.

Only crappy thing is it looks like you have to go into the city to see it at the Regent cinema which sucks so much ass.

Isn't this pretty old, like Spirited Away was, but just getting a western release with the voices done by big actors?

It starts today at the Schonell Cinema, on campus at UQ.
If you haven't been to the Schonell before, check it out. It's not a bad cinema and it's a bit cheaper than city etc. They have some interesting films there at times.

I have been waiting for this to come out for a while now. Looks cool.

Saw it at Chermside this afternoon.

English language version - would have preferred the subbed but couldn't be bothered to go out of my way. As far as dubbing goes it was a decent effort, as were the dubs for Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Some big names involved with the voice overs.

The movie itself was pretty good, not as good as other recent Studio Ghibli productions like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, but still entertaining. Good visuals, not too much use of CGI, decent characters.

I give it 3.5 stars out of a possible score of 5 :)
