The Serious Sam 2 demo mentioned yesterday has been released - grab it locally from AusGamers. Includes the complete Seriousopolis Uptown level from the game, which can be played solo, or over LAN or online by up to four people. Also included are all of the weapons and one of the vehicles. |

I know a lot of old school SSers as I have about 10,000 posts on the serious sam forums but only a couple of ppl have actually posted there opinions of it so far and they mainly only seem to be complaining about the small size of the level and that it seems like it was made for a console rather than for PC. I don;t know anyone of those ppl that posted their opinions so far so im pretty much going to disregard it until some of the true old schoolers post their thoughts.

Just had a quick bash, looks pretty neat. I was really impressed visually - nice and bright and colourful and fast. The level size was a bit short.
The key binding interface is only surpassed in crapness by BF2. Don't make the mistake of unbinding the look left/right/up/down keys and then trying to rebind them by, for eg, clicking 'look left' and then moving the mouse left. B A L L S. Nice, fun, simple gameplay. I never played the other SS games - they just looked a bit TOO simple for me, and prolly won't get into this either, but I can easily see how it'd be fun for a bash. As always I'm disappointed in that it looks like a console game first and foremost with a cheap hacky conversion to PC - the name entering screen sucks, key binding, etc - all that is sort of woeful. |

if enough ppl make a noise about these problems, im sure croteam will fix them by the time the full version comes out. Croteam are pretty good at listening to their fans.

For anyone interested, Serious Sam II has just gone gold and is due out in the U.S. on the 11th Oct... not sure on the Australian date but if it's anything like the previous Serious Sam releases we could be looking at anything from 2 weeks to a month later (and they wonder why people pirate games). Apprently the full version of the game is nothing like what was released in the demo, that demo was Take2's decision and is taken from a cut down build of the game thats over a month old so here's hoping the full thing will be a major improvment. The only letdown down is that it won't be shipped with deathmatch built in, apprently it's going to be added in a patch sometime down the track.
