I just installed this and have noticed a definite increase in speed in navigating my windows directories and stuff.

The tabs are pretty cool and it has a nice feature of creating another blank one when you are using the current one (if that makes sense). It is apparently supposed to have PNG support, but upon looking for the 'New Thread' button, it was invisible, but I could click it lol. No major loss as I'll still use firefox.

It's been a damn long time, but at least MS is trying. It's a bit wierd having like the file menu lower than the top of the window, but it's the standard sort of thing theyre going for in Longhorn, so I guess people will get used to it in the coming years (the general public I guess).

The navigation of Vista certainly does look very nice and quick, no more hitting back, back, double clicking to get to folders. It will be a great usability feature I think once people get used to it.

eg.

There's a fairly indepth review of the beta which came out today which explains some of the navigation around the file system and stuff on this site.

For more of an overview of features and stuff go here.

If you have the right MSDN account, or were given a beta testers license by signing up, or yarr, I dunno.

That review says they reckon it runs faster than winxp on the same hardware :o.

Said beta is 2.5gig dl though, apparently 1.6gig is drivers. They wanted a lot of compatibility I'm assuming. IE7 can be *found* as a seperate download that will only work on XP with SP2.

Beta 2 is said to be around November and will be available to the public...

I dont get what you mean. I'm pretty sure I can do that in firefox already by clicking my "Open a new tab" button?

lol i sort of confused everyone didnt i.

windows vista is the new os (codenamed longhorn). beta 1 is 2.5gig

ms ie 7 beta 1 is 10meg.

what I meant about the tabs thing was that you don't need to hit ctrlT or the 'new tab' button, it always has a new one there. if you open a new tab with middle click, it will then create a blank one next to that for future use if the user wants to type in the address bar. It's a minor thing that can be done with an extension in FF, but it's something that is good to have as default, no matter how minor of a thing it is.

lol. read those links in the original post if you want to know more.

sounds like a really old feature that other developers have had and MS have just cottoned on to.

Its disappointing that there isnt going to be many new useful features, considering they cut out a lot of the things that was going to make it such a life changing OS.

The browser isn't 2.5GB. It's 10MB.

Really all it is is a new interface to the IE engine. I woudlnt be surprised if nothing's changed in the IE engine.

Also, has anyone figured out how to aggregate RSS feeds in IE7b1 yet?

yea when your on a site with rss support, click the icon of the scissors to add a feed. I dunno if it changed how windows explorer windows engine worked..but I reckon just moving through folders is faster (folders where I have lots of large video files it trys to read the info for in details icon mode.)

lol thats a funny report. I don't use IE so it doenst really matter, but as if you would have other search bars anyway.

like firefox it has a built in search engine thingy in the top right where i can choose to search google. it works fine.

I call bulls***.

After installing IE7, not only was my google toolbar still active, but I ALSO had a google search toolbar along the URL bar. In other words, I had not one but two google search bars!
