Anyone know of any Lcd's that are under the $300 price range at the moment? Umart has a few but they are all out of stock :(

refresh rate isn't an issue.
i mean 16 would be nice, but its not essential... umart appear to be out of stock on all their cheapies :(

There's a special on at umart (down the road from my work, sexy!). 17" LCD for $239 I believe, or there abouts.

You run into crazies there... such as Tung on a outting!

The cheapest 17" monitor is the BenQ 19" FP937s.

dont buy that noname piece of crap, for an extra 30 dollars, you get a reliable brand and a better screen. BENQ FP71E 17 inch LCD monitor 12ms available for $322 from Umart. Its better than other models at the same price range like the LG model. Its got a faster response, time and a slighter higher hz rating, meaning your screen will look slightly smoother i thinks the word. Its got the fastest response time of its price range, making it the best, buy it now.

You dont work with hardware often I take it?. CMV isnt a no name brand, they are quite good monitors. They are brighter than the BenQ monitors easily and just as sharp, however the benq does have better color.

CMV Have a good return policy for dead pixels and a 3 year warrently, althought I havnt seen a faulty one yet.

About 3 weeks ago we tested the FP937S against the older 19" version of the CMV, waiting to get a new CMV, which im sure will be even better.

Your an idiot if you base your opinions on 1 faulty monitor. Benq have had faulty monitors, and LG and Sony and Acer etc etc...

Mongie, Have you sat down and compared them against other types and brands of monitors? They are actually pretty damn good for their price. Of course they arnt Samsung LG quality, but for $350 odd bucks, what do you expect.

These are the facts.

1) CMV are a no-name company. Even umart have the word "GENERIC" printed in the manufacturer field of their website.

2) CMV are cheap

3) I have a friend who went through 4 CMV monitors before they had one that worked.

4) If you're going to spend $300 on something, you may as well spend $350 and get somethat decent.

oh, and I sell acer monitors at work, the Acer al1714 was utter s***e. Way too bright and washed out. Interesting to note is that it had a 14msec pixel response (which I hadn't seen before at the time) Also interesting to note is that the linked CMV monitor also has a 14msec pixel response.

You also relise that there is only 3 LCD manufacturing plants in the world dont you? NEC owns one, LG owns one and Samsung owns one.

All these other monitors, get their components from them. I have not had a problem with the 8 CMV monitors that I and others have sold to clients, I heard there was problems with their early stuff, but the later stuff has proven to be great.

BenQ's low-end monitors are actually quite decent. I've deployed literally ten dozen or so of them and only had maybe half a dozen with a dead pixel and none have been DOA. Mind you, they're not much good if you're into gaming - the 12 ms models don't fare too well when there is lot of motion on the screen. But few if any of our clients use their PCs for anything other than working or looking at porn.

samsung ftw

i have a 710n, and im thinking about getting a 713n aswell (however i have an ocd being treated by prozac which would cause problems if i was to have 2 monitors beside each other that aren't exact matches)

Hate to break it to you but there is zero ghosting on 12ms models. Even the 16ms you cant notice. You are dreaming :)

Well I don't know about you guys but I can notice it. I have a CRT on my PC at home and a s*** 15" Viewmaster on my PC at work. Our clients are almost exclusively supplied with BenQ monitors, most of them being the 12 ms models. I personally notice the difference between the 12ms and the 8ms models, as does the other tech in my office.

You realise that the 8ms time is GTG only. The Colour response time could be alot higher like 12 or 16ms.
