Is there some kind of cheap version of the XBox Advanced AV Pack? The one that lets you plug the xbox into the s-video port of your TV so you get a better picture? I found a place online where I can order the official one, but its $35, and I was wondering if theres a cheaper alternative.

Anyone know if EB is flogging them off cheap in their sales or if theres a cheaper brand or something?

Took scuzzy's advice and checked out ebay and picked one up for $7. Its not the advanced av pack (doesn't have the 5.1 optical output), its just a replacement xbox AV cable that has s-video out, but thats really all I wanted anyway. Rockin.

I didn't think s-video was better. I've been told the yellow/standard 3 cables are better than s-video, and the even older ones are the best(green, black etC).
shrugs.

There's 3 standard ones. Composite which is just the one yellow cord (other two are sound), S-Video which is better, then component is best. Component is an L shaped kind of connector.

It's something to do with how the colours are put through in different cables instead of all the same one.

yeah there's that, but then they also use different pins for input as well? Where as composite is just one cable and one input.

Component - Sends the luminance (Y) as well as the the difference between the red and the luminance (Pr) and the difference between the blue and the luminance (Pb) on separate channels. A full colour picture is created by algebraically recombining the colour difference channels with the luminance channel. This avoids sending the green colour data, which on average takes a lot more bandwidth than the other colour channels.
RGB SCART - Sends separate Red, Green, and Blue channels.
S-Video - Sends the luminance (Y) and the chrominance (C) on separate channels.
Composite - Luminance (Y) and two chrominance channels (U and V) mixed into one channel.

Yeah, my TV doesn't have component in, or I would be grabbing one of those cables instead :( Best I can do is s-video, so I'm going for that. I've never really wanted one before, until I started playing San Andreas, and trying to make out all the icons on the map can be tricky as they bleed into the map and each other, its really really starting to bug me.

just have to remember that component cables don't work on PAL xbox's properly unless they're modded, so if your modded your fine.

hehe i picked up a componet cable for xbox for like $7 from ebay :)
mind you pal xbox's dont support hi def modes, need enigmah's video mode switch disk to change your xbox to nstc so 720P+ modes can be accessed from dashboard.
