You should really watch the UK version, Ricki Gervais (the UK boss) is too good.

Yeaaaah I dunno, I was a massive fan of the UK one, this one is okay I guess...I just think it works alot better in an English environment than a U.S. one

Oh yeah, I saw the ad for it last night but I forgot all about it. Oh well, doesn't sound like I missed much. The only reason I was tempted to watch it was cos the guy who plays the boss (I think hes the boss, looked like it on the ad anyway) is the guy who plays Brick in Anchorman, and looking at imdb, hes also going to play Maxwell Smart in an upcoming Get Smart movie. That guy is a pretty funny guy!

American version of the office was pathetic

The concept itself stinks, why the f*** should they feel compelled and/or be made to redo the show to make it more palatable to american audiences.

All the remake does is cloud peoples opinion of the show .. noobs in 20 years may mistakenly watch the american version instead of the british. If the american audiences don't like the british version, stiff s***, go watch Frasier or some crap.

Beyond Tomorrow is such a f***ing joke though. Half the show is a segment taken from an old episode of Mythbusters with the voiceovers redubbed by Matt Shirvington. Honestly, what's the point in watching something that was on SBS a month ago?

The show is generally just fluff and yes the mythbusters chunks are teh gay. They don't even bother showing the entire thing.

The reason they do show mythbusters on it is because I think the company that has distribution rights to mythbusters also produces beyond tomorrow.

the concept itself was the reason the first office was so succesful, maybe im missreading your statement or maybe you are ussing the wrong words.

anyway, my thoughts...

the office *uk version* was excellent entertainment, i believe that the major us demographic was unable to understand the humour as british humour is rather subtle. the uk version also took scenariors that the british people deal with day to day, the yanks have similar scenarios that needed to be interpreted in a US way. thus the show was decided to be remade.. that the the mega bucks that are there to be made.

The US version is an excellent remake as far as remakes go, it stays true to the original and keeps the message. The jokes are slightly different and they refer to american comedians instead of british comedians, which again is to help the american audience understand the show.

i find no problems with remaking a television show whilst they maintain a certain level of respect to the original and this is a prime example of this being done, at times i may not find it as funny as the original but thats could possible be due to the fact the jokes are now what i consider to be old news.

so in saying that im all for the remake of the office and ill continue to watch it weekly in support of such future correctly made remakes of television shows.

Maybe, just maybe because they want to crack the american market so they can make money from americans actually watching the show?
Like for f***s sake, the american version is pretty good, I think people just like to pay out anything american.

I thought it was quite good. I really enjoyed the UK version and like many I think it was just that bit better.

It is kinda hard to judge when you've seen a lot of the jokes/situations already. The characters and relationshops are pretty much a direct transfer from the UK show.

Still it hasn't put me off and I will watch it again for sure.

Must say I was very skeptical about this remake.
The original is hands down one of the best comedies around.
The first ep of the American version is a straight adaption of the first ep of the UK one, so it was kinda hard to get into because it was simply an inferior copy of David Brent.
Having said that, I will give it another go, not because it was laugh out loud funny, but because I would like to see whether they can make it even half as good.
I don't hold out much hope, because the show really hinges on that cringe factor which is so prevalent in UK comedy. Most great UK comedy ie Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, Monty Python etc is in some way having a go at the delicate sensibilities of English society. Part of the reason these great comedies work is that they dissect the way in which the British mindset is personified in characters such as Rimmer (Red Dwarf) and Basil Fawlty (Fawlty Towers). We understand the strict rules of the society and the humour is in watching these characters attempt to maintain some sort of dignity in the face of adversity.

I don't think the American style of humour is in keeping with this type of comedy. American comedy tends to be much more extroverted and outwardly projected, as opposed to laughing at themselves the way the Brits do.

I like aspects of both, but I generally prefer British comedy because it tends to be a bit more intellectual and introspective.

I accidently watched 5 minutes of this last night. I was devastated by how poor it was.

I've watched seasons 1 & 2 of the proper version and it was hilarious. David Brent and the other actors really made the show.

*sigh* Guess it's just another example of how corporations can kill anything that is good in this world in order to make money. I hope it flops.

I really enjoyed the UK series, haven't seen every episode but seen enough to enjoy it.

I thought the 5 minutes I saw of the American version was utterly pathetic.

The type of humour simply does not suit Americans.

That being said, if the Brits remade American Pie, I would think that was crap. And yes, American Pie is very funny. Those who disagree are either old beyond their prime or were complete nerds at school...either way, insignificant.

US version of the UK The office TV show may have sucked but Office Space rox, it's very similar type of humour and style to the UK yet it's American and it's hillarious. So it's possible for the American to do really funny stuff, but it would seem they they're not really trying that hard in this case.

Thanks, i just thought it was interesting all these people saying it sucked (fair enough its their opinion) but if you gave the show a chance it has improved and most eps have lots of lol now, and its its own show pretty much totally seperate from the UK original.
