Prolly the same question asked for the zillionth time, but I'm in the market for a new screen. Call me slow to come around to LCD's if you will, but I still prefer the image quality and zero dead pixel 'guarantee' of a CRT despite their undesirable bulk.
Thinking Viewsonic 19" (18" viewable), either P95F+b [1st choice as I lurve aperture grille] or G90f+ [still respectable] at the lower pricepoint. I realise that for the price of the former, I could possibly pick up a slowish low end 19" LCD on promo, and for the price of the latter a 17" BENQ et al LCD. Intended use is home/office, mixed gaming and the usual sort surfing with no requirement for (LAN) mobility. What do you think? PS: Love to hear reports or opinions from anyone who actually has either of these models. |

CRT all the way. I just can't bring myself to pay double the cost just to save some space that i'm not gonna use anyway.
Besides, after an hour on an LCD monitor, i rub my eyes saying 'get me back to a normal monitor.' CRT all the way! Bring on the flames! |

Besides, after an hour on an LCD monitor, i rub my eyes saying 'get me back to a normal monitor.' Exact opposite experience. I have to use a CRT at work and it s***s me, especially at the rez I run it at for development work (1600x1200). In my experience LCDs have been universally sharper, clearer and easier on the eye than CRTs Ive used. I only got dead pixels on my LCD at home when I stacked into it and knocked it off my desk while s***faced :p |

I agree, I love my CRT! Although LCD's are very sexy monitors I just seem to like the colour depth and contrast of a "good" CRT over a LCD.
As far as eye strain goes, I find LCD's are better on your eyes and with zip radiation it's alot better for you too. Any 19" Flatscreen monitor is good although I would stear clear of the viewsonics, well the cheaper ones anyway.. http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=16&&bid=2&sid=9188 last edited by Cr@ckerJ@ck at 16:59:16 22/Jun/05 |

I have an LG Flatron F700P and it's great.
My computer desk is littered with papers n s***, if i had an LCD it'd just be more space for more papers/junk. Maybe in another year LCD's will have the quality/price worth purchasing them. |

I bought an elcheapo LCD about 6 months ago for $305 - some CMV brand, never had a moments problem with it and its a pretty decent screen, no ghosting or anything else. Was so sick of using CRTS, now whenever I go into another room or use another persons CRT I can physically see the scan lines and s*** now - its annoying.
Best $300 I spent on a PC in ages! |

I guess price wise you can't beat CRT. You can get really good one 21" one for a pretty decent price now. If I have the choice I'd use LCD but realistically, any high-res CRT will do me just fine. I'm using a Dell Triniton 19" at work and it's awesome. Desk space isn't really an issue for me as I have a huge desk so.

LCD without a doubt. I use a BENQ FP71E+ at home and a Dell at work.
Will never use a CRT again, not in this lifetime. |
