Just saw this article. apparently the lady on the left in the pics is actually an android (but my guess is that it can only just sit and not move about).

"When a robot looks too much like the real thing, it's creepy," This is one of the most fascinating things about the human psyche. When something completely non-human has some human-like qualities, it's cute and adorable. It moves like those crappy puppet things you'd see at Dreamworld or Seaworld. Or if you're old enough to remember the singing animals at Charly Cheeses back in the early 80's.

You know you are the acne of this world of s*** when you create a humanoid out of technology to supplement your pathetic existance.

This is one of the most fascinating things about the human psyche. When something completely non-human has some human-like qualities, it's cute and adorable. When something is very close to a human, but not quite, it's downright creepy. Even engineers working at places like MIT say that the closer it is to looking human the more creepy it gets. Now, that has to say something for making androids. If both alpha geeks and the general public think that things too human like are creepy, then maybe it isn't a good idea. The research suggests that the human brain can assimulate a concept of something and relate it what it is supposed to represent. Think of that add for digital cameras, who is riding the bull. It starts off looking like lego, but the human mind can fill in a lot of the blanks. However, in the case of looking human the brain works against us. This is because we spend all of our time looking at how people comunicate, move, breath and so on. So, when we see a copy of it we can pick up all of the flaws effortlessly. That is why the people in the FF movie always didn't look quite right, but the static objects (like the vehicals) looked f***ing awesome. |

I'm not too impressed by that. Its just another animatronic that runs on compressed air. Disney had stuff like that working over 30 years ago.
