Holy crap.
I remember going to dreamworld as a little kid in '92 while my parents work working at Indy (me and my brother being under 16 weren't allowed to be in race control or the general paddock area). Was good, but it seems almost all the rides have been replaced since then. The girlfriend yesterday informed me that she hasn't been to any of the theme parks up there other than Sea World, but claims they'd be rather tame compared to the ones she's been to in the states. But yeah, went looking at ticket prices $60 for an adult, yeek. Has it always been like that? (When you dump on $140 each way for a Mel-Bri flight, 2 nights accom, a short holiday starts looking expensive :) The other question I guess would be are the any recommendations for/against it these days? |

Against: Its boring. Just use your money and go hit the piss after a day of chillin' at surfers.

what ctd said
as for dreamworld, i find it more valuable if you pay what $150? for the year pass, and pay it off by going atleast 3 times in a year (to pay off 3 single visits), then the rest can be considered free :D i heard on the radio a while ago that dreamworld are planning on doubling in size! over the next 10 years i want an australian disneyworld edit: also if you come up on the holidays, $60 will seem like even more of a waste since youll be waiting in line most the day (queue:ride - 100:0.1) last edited by Jem at 11:11:20 21/Jun/05 |

dont bother to go to Dreamworld they have exactly 2 count em 2 rides worth riding, wait time will usually vary from 2hours to 3hour(sometimes more)...my cuz and his G/F came up from melbourne last year paid alot of money to get in then at close wen we went to pick em up they said the lines were so big they only really got on about 3 or 4 rides and not really worth it.
Edit:also if you do go take your own food, cause the food there tastes like ass and is over priced(i know what do expect from a theme park) last edited by Irhabi at 11:14:43 21/Jun/05 |

If you go on a quite day (dunno how to pick that - maybe overcast mid-week, non-holidays) it wouldn't be t0oo bad at all.
If you are there for 7 odd hours ($60/7) = $8.50/hr which is pretty cheap entertainment really. And yes take your own food. I went there for a private company night session just before Christmas and it was great (although only limited rides open) some of the rides were waiting for people to get on :) last edited by mission at 12:08:02 21/Jun/05 |

On the back of shop-a-dockets are discounted prices, they also appear in the mail fairly often. IMO overpriced without the discounted entry.

^Good point^
You can save a fair bit with those. When we went to Sea World last year (4 adults and 3 kids) it came to something like $290 after the docket ~$180. |

What kind of discounted entry are we talking?
As for when we'd go in terms of it being busy, yeah, we'd probably look at going on a weekday, since you'd think it'd generally be packed on a weekend or on any public holiday. I did actually look at the yearly pass but considering I won't be up there again, it's pretty useless unless you can dish it off to a mate. Do they put any names/require proof of ID to use that? I did actually look at their nighttime opening, but it's only open for like 3 1/2 hours so for $30 you wouldn't get much in. |

I think the discount passes are for 'local' residents, as in probably 100km or so radius. They normally have a postcode range where you must produce ID to get the discount. They issue them on the back of supermarket dockets etc. It is probally to encourage local poeple to get along more often than they do.
When we went to Sea World they asked me for ID which I showed, asked my Dad who lives down near Sydney... but gave him the discount anyway.... I don't think they would be wanting to discount to 'tourists'. |

I currently work at dreamworld as a ride op and to be honest guys, once NSW goes on holidays (next week?) it will be extremely packed, even on weekdays.

Ah, that's something I hadn't thought of. Will have to make sure we go when holidays of either state isn't on as well.

Yeah, if you go on a normal weekday while the kids are at school, it is really slack. They do let us know 2 weeks in advance how busy they will expect each day to be so if anyone ever goes and wants an estimate, just let me know.

Yeah basically Dreamworld is always offering discounts, so if you rock up to the door and pay the full fee you are a sucker. Look around and you'll find a "Adults at kids prices" voucher somewhere... though sometimes those have a condition that you have to be from QLD or North NSW?

I went to all the theme parks a couple of years ago, i had a ball just wading around in the pools and sinking piss out of a flask, the rides were good but i didnt bother going on any after the first hour of the parks being open, we got in first so no lines to major rides in early morning.
Is it movie world without the pools, that one sucked arse, dont go there |

I heard dreamworld charges retards twice as much as anyone else because the rides for them feel faster.
