Yeah, 6600GT is best bang for buck atm. A s*** cheap plain 6600 will do 13,500 in 3dmark01 with ease.
A 6600GT will do more like 16,000 or so i believe. |

Whats the go with some cards having 256meg of memory and being cheapish...and anothers having 256 and being like 600 bucks?!
Is there performance difference between the one suhaib posted (256) and the one eds posted (128)? Theres a $50 dollar price dif too! (128 is more expensive!) |

The 128mb cards usually have faster memory but not as much of it. If you're playing a game which contains high-res textures, the 256mb cards will usually perform better as it has room to hold a lot of those textures at once. Games which use less high-res textures will be able to swap those textures in and out much faster, but won't be able to hold as much at once.
I don't have numbers to throw around, but that's the general gist of it all. If you run games in high res (i.e. > 1280x960) you might want to go the 256mb, otherwise the 128mb will possibly outperform the 256mb versions. Feel free to correct me if I've made a mistake, but this is what I have been led to believe, plus i just did an exam and I'm tired. I remember my old 9600XT extreme, it had only 128mb, but it had 2.5ns and thus outperformed many of the regular 256mb XTs. |

sup james.!
i didn't end up going for that card. went to computer alliance and bought the 6600GT for $270. pretty happy with it, but only got a 1.4ghz t`bird so thats the bottleneck big time. I've got an abit nf7-s. so maybe? had some trouble with installing it. as soon as i hooked it up, it had uninstalled all my nforce drivers, lan, sound, agp port etc. an hour of f***ing around, i'm into battlefield shooting up yanks :P koopz who's that indian guy in the tech department? he was abit of a rude and didn't have a clue ! aaron was helpful! |
