What's the webpage where you can put in your car and model and maybe K's.. and it comes up with a rough estimate of what it is worth?

Its not an estimate... its just an average of all the private and dealer sales for that particular vehicle.

also, while average by definition != estimate, in this case average would be the best estimate for the market value of the vehicle

yes?

Sorry have to agree with hunter here.

An average is just that, an average.

And estimate takes into other factors and is an estimate of your vehicles worth, includes details like full service log, body tyre and mechanical condition, after market extras.

Redbook you put in km's year make model and 1 of 3 condition levels. Bam spits out the average price.

But wouldnt redbook take into account "all the private and dealer sales for that particular vehicle" at the moment, which would include both extremes of the "other factors" like..
full service log, body tyre and mechanical condition, after market extras.

Well this is strange, I am in full agreeance with Obes on this...

Redbook states on their website that they only take into account the vehicle's make and model, km on the odometer, sale price and that's about... it does not care if your car was sold with a country pack or a modified engine... Its good for figuring out what people are prepared to pay for your particular car which then enables you set a price which will benefit you and the buyer as well.

Note: I'm not sure exactly what information their commercial facility provides, however.

For obes the dirty troll...
Please Note:

Prices quoted include standard equipment. However, allowance should be made for any added optional equipment. Click on "specifications" for details of standard and optional equipment.
* Trade-In Price Guide assumes that the vehicle is in average condition with average kilometres.

* Private Sale Price Guide may be different to a dealer's retail price because the dealer prepares the vehicle more thoroughly, both mechanically and aesthetically, and provides a consumer warranty.

HOLY f*** its an approximation of the vechicles worth...

also its a rough guide.. which is what is wanted, its entirely pointless to have a website where you simply put in the ks, model and 'condition' of a car only to have it spit back a response of its worth because any number of factors influence it, hell i could put together 30 corollas from the same year same k's and if i got estimates on each of them I think i could get different figures for each... not significantly different but different none the less...

An estimate, in the motor vehicle industry parlance is considered to be an _opinion_ of that particular estimator. I could walk up to a ricebox and go "yep, she's a ricebox, its roadworthy and I would pay $0.02c". Entirely subjective.

Completely different to an actual valuation.

No astro ... the redbook average doesn't take anything into consideration except
Make, Model, Year K's and a very rough condition guide.

ie. there is a large difference between a stock diesel 4wd, and one that had an aftermarket turbo installed, 2 inch body lift, 4 inch suspension lift, snorkel, gps, , bars allround, cargo racks etc etc etc

Or since some of you may understand ricer talk better. Low profile tyres with new rims, lowered to 10mils off the ground, custom sound system, custom paint job, custom tint job and a fully sick sticker collection (or whatever the fek is cool in maccas car parks these days) vs something stock in white. .

I think redbook even gives some big ass warning about how it doesn't take everything into account and is only an average.

I am not trolling... hell boxhead you are even quoting stuff that makes hunters point more and more valid.

An estimate for your vehicle is different to the average for your make/model/year.

You want more accurate prices, try a car broker it will cost you $50 or so and they will want to send a valuerer to you if you are serious. Or you could try a few cash for car joints.

We've already established, quite clearly, in this thread that an estimate is different to what redbook provides (which is an average of sale prices based on various pieces of data).

The only thing you have established is that you are overly anal, to the point of ignoring the original posters question, give him an alternative answer (like carsales.com.au or whatever)... or you can just keep arguing semantics.
