DivX 6 has been released:
DivX 6 is available through two new product bundles: the DivX 6 Play Bundle and the DivX 6 Create Bundle. The DivX 6 Play Bundle contains everything you need to playback all types of DivX video, including the new DivX Media Format. The DivX 6 Create Bundle contains the DivX codec and DivX Converter enabling easy creation of DivX media.

What's New:

* DivX Media Format
DivX 6 introduces the DivX® Media Format with advanced features including:
o Interactive video menus
o XSUB™ subtitles
o Multiple audio tracks
o Chapter points and more

Current DivX® Certified devices will playback DivX 6 files, but will not offer full support for the advanced media features of the DivX Media Format. Devices that offer full support for the DivX Media Format are expected to reach retail shelves in late 2005.

DivX Converter

* Provides easy, one-step encoding of virtually any file to high-quality DivX video
* Produces DivX media files with advanced interactive features
* Requires no special knowledge of video codecs

The DivX Converter™ is included in the DivX Create Bundle.

  • XSUB™ subtitles let you author movies with multiple language subtitle sets
  • XTAG™ video tags contain descriptive information like title, author and the video specifications used in the file’s creation to streamline organization

It introduces a new envolope format with a file extension of DMF.

That should nicely screw with anyone still writing/trading music in the DMF Delusion Digital Music Format. :/

Early reports seem to indicate that any MediaTek chipset based standalone player plays DivX 6.0 stuff fine

    will it play .bin files?
if not, what will play them, without my having to burn the file to cd??

You see, i was backing-up my important cd's to my hdd, but then i lost my origonals and now i want to just play them from my hdd without having to re-burn them. yeah, that's it.

    super nubeeeee Q, i know.

If you have a modded xbox XBMC plays .bin/.iso files straight (assuming it's a bin/iso of a video format it supports such as VCD/SVCD/DVD)
