It's happened to me too, it's because of the textures missing. ATI has said something about it, and said that if the problems continue, go back to Catalyst 5.1

i barely ever update my drivers, i still use omega 2.6.05a.
I use to update everytime the new ones came out but some of the new ones made my computer run worse than it already was so i found one that worked good and im going to stick with it for a while :D |

Speaking of problems does anyone else find the menu UI to be really f***ing sluggish? I don't see why it is... it looks like crap and is very very plain, I am running in 800x600 but still static menus should be able to scale a lot better than it is, the text looks absolutely horrible.

rubba I dont have any issues with text ect., but it has been reported on a few sites about the dodgy menu/GUI interface sluggishness. I'd say the game will be up for a few patches once its released. I hope they make the sniper rifle a s***load more powerful. :)

Considering it take my machine 3 seconds to load the menu from inside the game when the game itself runs absolutely fine, then I must agree that it's sluggish.
I find the scoreboard very easy to read, but try reading the damn console. Can barely make out any words, even at 1024x768! |

Yeah, the UI is pretty sluggish for me, and for other people I've talked to as well.
And yes, sniper rifle needs more power IMO. |

Sniper rifles are gay, get some skills and take the fight up close and personal.
And to keep on topic, I get some weird graphical stuff too, details (like grass) popping in and out, and the shadows are huge spastic rectagular blocks that cover way way way more than they should. I've heard this apparently means I need to install the newer drivers that came bundled with the demo, but I think that only 32 bit versions comes with the demo, and I'm running 64 bit windows, so it looks like its back to dual booting with 32 bit xp again for me. Why do these developers refuse to embrace change and support 64 bit windows! Hell, I dont even care if the game doesn't officially support 64 bit windows, but at least bundle it with a 64 bit version of the drivers. Nvidia has 64 bit dets on their site so they're obviously capable of making them. last edited by Khel at 17:00:19 15/Jun/05 |

I ended up turning off shadows because they looked ghey, and it doesn't make the game look any prettier either.

All in all, I'm unimpressed with the eyecandy. Had expected more due to various reviewers crapping on about how "real" it all is. That said though, the gameplay is pretty damn fun.

I've got it running on normal XP now, 1024x768 on high and its sweet as. Just out of curiosity I turned texture detail and something else I can't remember up to high (they're set to medium when you choose the 'high detail' profile), and it totally slawed my performance. Huge chunking and caching, flew one of the planes accross the map at about 1 fps, was like watching a slideshow flyover of the game map.
I'm also still getting weirdness with my sound, I'm thinking its almost time to bite the bullet and just get an Audigy. My fortissimo has been a great card but the support for it seems to be lacking more and more these days. For a start theres no 64 bit drivers (and after emailing Hercules I found out they have absolutely no plans of making any), and BF2 doesn't even seem to detect it as capable of hardware acceleration. Whenever I turn hardware acceleration on, even only on medium, the sound breaks up and goes to s*** :( |

Alot of people are claiming less jerks and hiccups by turning up their "Graphics Aperture Size" in their BIOS settings to about 256MB.
If anyone has tried this, please post your opinion! |

Khel I can highly recommend the Audigy 2 zs, sounds set to high/hardware with EAX enabled and its awesome. I had a fortissimo before and it gave me the same issues with BF1942 and BF:V.
I bought a logitech usb headset recently but when i had voice and in game sounds coming thru it, it crackled and farted a lot. So now I have the in game sounds and voice coming thru the Audigy and have the usb heaset mic round my neck just to broadcast and its cyrtsal clear on both. I look wierd but it works for now. I will be trying out a clip on mike for my Zalman headphones when they are in stock and have all sounds going thru the audigy. Listening to artillery coming from behind you, over your head and aircraft ect. is good. It also helps you pick up directions that heavy machinery is approaching from as well. Parabol, I turned Dynamic lighting down to medium, with all else at high at 1024x768, 2xAA, 4X Ansio and is very smooth. My aperture size is 256 as well. last edited by Psycho! at 00:41:42 16/Jun/05 |

Khel, this is from the readme file in the demo.
- We recommend Creative sound cards for use with Battlefield 2. I'd say thats why the Herc is giving you wierd sounds ect.. |

Sound is amazing, can't recommend these enough and the cost of them is like a dime-a-dozen. Chicken feed to buy one. 8-) |

Is the Audigy 2 ZS poverty pack version the same quality but just without the fancy packaging, or do you need to go for the full retail thingie?

So the Audigy 2 Value ($90) is a different card than the Audigy 2zs ($150)?
The $150 A2zs is about the only 'poverty pack' I can find. |

Picked up an Audigy 2zs from CA today, just the standard one without the front panel IO thing and all that s***. I swear though, this sound card came with more free games than any bundle I've even got with new video cards. I got full versions of Raven Shield, Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, Hitman: Contracts, and Thief: Deadly Shadows.

Khel, make sure you use the 'autoupdate' feature from the creative site to get all the driver patches ect...EAX4 and such. Hope you like it as much as I do mine.

I think the value is a different card, because the drivers I grabbed for the 2zs said dont install these drivers for the Audigy 2 value card.
This is a really sweet card though, thanks for the tip Psycho. Apart from running awesomely in BF2 now, it also just seems to have better clarity and fuller sound than my Fortissimo did. There used to be a background hiss of static always coming through my headphones previously, I assumed from interference from other bits of the PC, but now thats totally gone. Also, when I used to listen to music that had really extreme low ranges or high ranges, the speakers in my headphone would crackle a little. I thought it was a problem with my headphones, but now with the audigy it doesn't happen anymore, so that rocks too :) Also, theres 64 bit drivers for it! Happy days! Still doesn't quite have the same level of support as the 32 bit variants, so I think I'll keep dual booting for now and use 32 bit xp for games, but at least I now have a working sound card under 64 bit windows. last edited by Khel at 14:37:29 17/Jun/05 |
