Isocol isn't water you idiot.
PS - I can't think of any reason it would do harm, but I am not an expert and your CPU might be expensive. last edited by fpot at 11:06:35 15/Jun/05 |

f*** off fpot. if you had half the brain you claim you have, you would atleast f***ing be able to put what im saying together. i know its not f***ing water. but a "damp cloth" should be safe as far as cleaning cpu crap. so isocol should be fine as well?

Yeh, rubbing a damp with water cloth over the CPU is exactly the same as applying a water free rubbing alcohol to a CPU. Well done again d*******.

Whitewolf what in the f*** are you talking about? He's not worried about water or dampness... he's wondering if the alcohol is pure enough to clean it well.
What % is it? If it's over 70 I'd say it should be fine. But yeah I'm no professional. |

Some discussion about it here from people who seem to know what they are on about.
Seems you need to get it 99.7% pure. last edited by fpot at 11:21:12 15/Jun/05 |

I'd use something like shellite. (Cheap from a hardware or kmart type store)
You want as little extra stuff in yoru alcohol as possible, so when the alcohol evapourates its a clean surface. |

Okay FINE! And I'll pickup a box of EXTRA SMALL condoms while I'm at it.
I'll just say they aren't for me and not make eye contact. Yep, it's all going to be fine. |

If you're really worried, go to Mitre 10 and buy some Isopropyl Alcohol. Should cost about $8.
I've been using it for a year without problems. |

If you're really worried, go to Mitre 10 and buy some Isopropyl Alcohol. Should cost about $8. I got mine from my local pharmacist (asked at the prescriptions counter). They had a large bottle of it which they used to fill a small dropper-sized bottle for me. I had a lot of crap on my 1600+ but isopropyl alcohol did the trick. |

Use nail polish remover. Thats what my antec thermal paste said to use. And use a plastic bag inbetween the serface of your finger and the cpu/heatsink.

Use anything that evaporates fast... metho is a good choice.
The reason you want something like metho/acetone is for the quick evaporative properties. So it will wash away the poo and evaporate fast and wont short circuit anything when electricity is running through it. You COULD use water or hell your own piss to clean it if you really wanted to! You'd just have to wait a lot longer to be sure it was alle evaporated and safe to use without shorting it out and killing it. |

I ended up using acetone which did the trick. The pharmacy didn't sell pure Isopropyl Alcohol. (no hardware stores were open)

btw semen apparently works well as a thermal interface material. Some weirdo overseas tried it on a water-cooled system. Bizzare.
