John Passfield, one of the founders of Brisbane-based Krome Studios - one of Australia's largest game development companies - has announced he has left Krome to pursue other opportunities:
Passfield says while he is proud of the work he has done during his time with Krome Studios, he sees his career taking a different direction to that of Krome.

"Making games is definitely part of the next phase of my career and there are a number of exciting opportunities on the horizon," Passfield says.
No doubt this will lead to even more cool game companies in Australia (hopefully in Brisbane, of course!)

yea heard about this from a friend who works in krome a day or 2 ago. Still not sure if he left on good terms or bad terms, but hopefully this will lead to another company in brisbane, which it sorely needs given the shortage of game dev companies in the area.

how do you get a job as a game tester hem?

and what would you put on your resume for past experience? 'testing games'? ;p

must be a f*** of an easy job, if not easy, fun, if not fun, why the f*** not?

Game companies are at a natural seasonal low at the moment, things should pick up in a few months as the temperature drops and low pressure centres increase.

Started on work experience after speaking to the boss-man at a QANTM info. night
(s***, how many times have you all heard me say this! :D)

You put on "Quality Assurance" ;)

The work is very repetative, but its cool.
Best place to work!

I think a lot of people do it because it gets you into the company and you can start getting yourself known and maybe move up to something bigger. Or some people might do it cos they like playing games all day. Or I could just be speaking out my ass. You choose!

Sorry for reviving an old thread... but this was just 1 small question that i didn't think needed a new thread.

Hemerage (and anyone else who works there), you work at Krome right? I'm writing in an application for a job there, though I'm trying to figure out who to address the cover letter to (yeah i know i can just put dear sir/mdm... but i like to add a little personal touch - no pun intended).

if you don't feel like putting their name on the forum, you can just e-mail me : jc(-at-)revivalstudios.com

Thanks.

'humanresources@kromestudios.com'

That’s the address bud. I applied for one last week as well.
Good luck!

I already got that e-mail. Just wondering who to address the cover letter to.... so i can put "dear mr/ms " instead of a generic "dear sir/mdm"

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what job you applying for? hope it's not the same one i'm after :P hahah

Good luck with your app too

i wont swear to this, but your probably after Michael Crimmins. From memory he is head of HR or QA.

you'll need to check with hemerage.

Is this why so many people are planning on leaving?
I'd say it was due to the length of the downtime between projects.
I have never had a single problem working here.

I will say it again, it's a great place to work.

And who are you?
Someone inside the company?

I think I recall a rather odd, or snide (I forget) comment from you somewhere else... so I'm curious

Fish,

I'm not sure who they go directly to... and even still, I'm sure they get passed on

I wouldn't do it to anyone particular

Spellcheck your damn app 4000 times. Or you'll get laughed at

He was our HR guy, but he left

Do what someone said above, just call them up, see if you can get a name out of them as to who will be reading the applications.

Turn your mobile to silent number, call them and ask to speak to the HR officer as a government rep.

Not much point doing that since afaik we don't have an official HR guy ATM (I've been on holidays for the last 3 weeks).

When I was looking for work (and I'd finished applying for all the advertised positions) I went through the yellow pages and started sending resumes to every computer company. I rang each one first and asked who was in charge of HR so I knew whose attention it should be made out to.
It was no big deal and no secret. It's not like you have to surprise them with your application.
