I have zone alarm pro, no idea what version(about 1-2yrs old i think).

I am using abc to dl some torrents(i dont want to change program either) and i noticed when i opened zone alarm that there is a list of programs in the top right hand corner of the program. The abc logo is flashing and when i roll over it it says "abc.exe blocked from listening to ports: tcp: 6886, 6885, 6884, 6883, 6881, 54444"

I am assuming that this means that abc is not being allowed to use these ports to use to dl(which im guessing makes it slower?)

My question is:
- does these ports being closed do anything to the speed or performance etc?
- if they do how do i change the ports so they are not blocked

thansk in advance

the help file tell you how to do it but from memory you just go to the Programs tap on the firewall, then right click abc.exe then allow....or i think it lets you specify what ports to its allowed to use

ok i added the ports into the incoming tcp section or do i put them into the incoming udp section?

also, by opening these ports will it put my computer at risk? and will it make a difference to my speeds?

thanks :D

zone alarm pro eh, I believe that's the one you pay for. why not ring up zone alarm customer support? I'm sure they'll be glad to help a paying customer. http://users.bigpond.net.au/ritsuko/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I liked Smoothwall too. Easy and quick installation. Parent friendly. But you need a dedicated box.

Only problem is that its firewall rules don't make your system invisible to machines on the internet. A custom-built linux box (slackware, gentoo, etc) would be much better in the long-term, though it take a good amount of time to set up.

Anyway, back on the topic of crappy Windows firewalls ...
zone alarm is terrible :(

Seconded. Outpost wins!
