I really hate you. Went fishing on Saturday in moreton bay (caught 200+ fish) and got absolutely cindered. Usually I would wear the token shirt/hat/sunscreen, but we had only planned on taking the boat out for a run and doing just a tiny bit of fishing before it got too hot; head back into port at about 9am (we started at 6:30). Turns out, the fish were on like a bunch of ferocious mad-cainers so sure as s***, i got burnt to the wazoo from head to toe. All I had to protect myself was a pair of sunnies and a some stubbies. Oh and my fongers. So yeah, after waking up this morning to a pillow full of dead skin, and peeling toilet paper-squared sized pieces of flesh from my back and chest, all i can say is I will never ever agree to doing something crazy in the sun again. I am trying to get pics but my digi cam is the looz. |

Isnt there a limit on the amount of fish your allowed to catch? What are you gonna do with 200+ fish...you'd be buggered eatting them all.

Tanaka Khan, bag limits depends on species... but that aside I think the figures may have been exagerated, or they could be a 'catch and release' fisherperson.

You should use aloe vera on the burns, before you start peeling ;)

yeah this last week has been murder. new-years 2004 I had second degree burns to all of my body except for where I was wearing board-shorts. It was an over-cast day, couldn't see the sun at all, but the UV still got through and destroyed me. I was in serious pain for about a week, it took around 10-12 days for the skin to actually start peeling properly because the layers underneath couldn't heal/grow back because they were burnt too. After the fifth day it hadn't healed at all and was actually looking and feeling worse than the first two days, my whole body was a funny shade of purple. The sickness was uncomfortable too. Constant shivers and weakness. When the top two layers finally started to peel off the third layer underneath was actually still burnt and raw. It was not a pretty sight. never again. cam's sunburn relief formula goes as such (in order): 1. cold shower. 2. more cold shower. 3. SORBOLENE CREAM DURING COLD SHOWER. this is a god-send. Get one of those big 1.5 litre bottles of sorbolene from the supermarket and keep it in your fridge. During your cold shower slop that stuff on like there's no tomorrow. it will moisturize and help heal your skin, and also sooth the pain a bit. You should leave the Sorbolene on when you get out of the shower too, don't wash it off, give it a good long time to soak into your skin. 4. Aloe-vera: plant or spray. The real thing is the bomb s***, especially if you refridgerate it. The way to apply it is to cut off a whole frond from the plant and strip away the green outer-skin. The gel substance inside is magic. If you don't have one in your garden ask your neighbours, it's pretty common. 5. DON'T GO OUTSIDE. As far as I know, the cause of most skin cancer is a recurring burn from when you are younger. If you go outside while still burnt you can re-burn in a matter of seconds from direct sunlight. Something about the cells on top and underneath being killed off, then sinking into the skin, being covered by the new burn and brewing into a nasty little skin-demon that likes to kill you. my friends went to Fiji for nine days last week and were in the sun everyday, yet they didn't burn at all. They came back here and got burnt on the first day. Australia = the world's frypan. |

Hi Joanna! =)
Yeah, I'd go aloe vera plant over sprays. Most companies add s*** to it. Works better natural. Like Cam said, but use half a frond, squeeze the juice out, then stick the frond into a pot. They regrow into a new plant really easily ;) |

Throw moisturising craem on it, it'll stop the peeling and you get to keep the tan!

Definately caught 101 whiting, I counted them all when cleaning/filliting them. There is no bag limit. Caught approximately 100 more flathead which were ALL f***en undersized, and grinners which are s*** that we stabbed in the head and through back in the water. Not much else to catch in moreton bay besides the odd squid/cuttlefish. |
