Valve have just sent out the following announcement:
Day of Defeat: Source, Valve's World War II-themed multiplayer action game, is approaching beta and will be available early this spring via Steam. A team-based multiplayer game that cast players in the Axis vs. Allies battles of Western Europe circa 1944, Day of Defeat: Source leverages the power of the Source engine to introduce integrated physics simulation technology, all new audio, updated maps, enhanced effects and more. More information about Day of Defeat: Source will be released in the coming weeks. For more information on Steam, please visit www.steampowered.com
Good news for Day of Defeat fans and/or people that just haven't had enough of World War 2 FPS games. Two screenshots are available; check the comments for links.

O, I didn't even know they had bought the game. Did they keep many of the original guys on?

Fingers crossed they haven't rushed this out like CS Source and it will be a little more impressive.

I'm really hanging out for this, I hope I'm not dissapointed!

We should start a trog news article drinking game.

Take a sip when:
* He gushes over an id game
* He slams anything from Valve or Blizzard

You'll be drunk by midday ;p

As a general rule, I try not to slam or gush in news items (I won't deny I haven't, usually after a 12 hour period of battling Steam to no avail). I don't recall every slamming anything by Blizzard; they're one of the few game developers I actually like, even if none of their games actually do anything for me!

that's the attitude I always held in regards to them as well, untill they made wow, a game I actually like :P

WTF. Are those screenies for real? The models are incredibly low poly. Look at the square barrels and arms ect. If that’s the quality of it I wont be bothering.

"Uh, thanks - but this image has been checked by moderators and we can't see anything wrong with it.
Please don't press this button unless there is an image that is actually inappropriate - doing it randomly to see what happens wastes our time!"

hehe I just thought those 2 screenshots were totally inappropriate! It wasn't random

Yeah, it does nothing for me either.

Something that would be awesome to come back is Front Line Force. Now that game was a real nail biter when it came to capturing points.

8-)

bite your arse strex, if I wanted to play DOD, I would play DOD, but it's old and the gameplay outdated

I feel pity for those suckers who paid extra for DOD source

Trog, reguarding the inapropriate image button on AusImages.com

Might I just say that if you removed the button and made it a like to another page/script that generated one of those random images that you have to copy, simular to signing up for web based email accounts. So that users would have to extend alot more effort to report the image. This may discourage abuse but still allow genuine abuse reports.

f*** you people are dumb, valve already stated that they were only porting the game to the engine and not re-doing the graphics.

Yeah that $10 to get DOD Source, HL Source, and CS CZ really broke the bank

The $10 dollars or whatever got us HL:Source, DOD:Source, Opposing Force and Condition Zero and the original Halflife + mods if you didnt already have them.
In my opinion a very well spent 10 dollars.
Ill still give dod a whirl however I was hoping for it be completely redone like cs:source.

:/

I didnt see the screenshots when i posted before... if thats the way its going to look when its finished then im gonna have to pass on it...

However much it hurts to say this from the first glimpse I'd rate CS: Source a million miles ahead of DOD: Source.

If they aren't going to remodel and reskin why bother even porting it... wow particle smoke and moveable barrels and s*** excitement ++!

They are redoing the models, they're adding and redoing quite alot of stuff, they only just started the beta testing for main functionality.

Yes and what decade did most of those games come out in? Adding :Source to the end of a name doesn't make it a new game nor worth $10. Most people here already own HL.

If it were up to Valve, everyone would still be playing de_dust in 2015, with minor map changes such as 3 new textures, and an extra lightpole and maybe a new weapon or two. Oh and a monthly subscription.

I'd love to give Valve money, if only they'd come up with something more interesting than X:Source. I really liked Half-life. It's a shame their 'real' game development stopped then and there. They were really going places.
