After years of not watching tv etc, im finally investing.

I'll go to the usuals - JB, harvey norman, kmart etc. Looking for a 51cm flatscreen or so I guess - any suggestions? Should I stay clear from the noname brands or are they ok?

Secondly, I need a DVD player that will play media files (divx etc). Any suggestions on which/where to get one?

Total budget around $500.

thanks

Check the Digitor brand of TV at Dick Smith, they're pretty cheap, and have Component IN which will be good for a DVD player.

You can get a Pioneer DVD player from JB's for around $250 that will play Divx, not sure if it's upgradeable though. I've got the model below it that doesn't have Divx capability and it's been solid so far and has a 5 year waranty.

Try the 'Good Guys' as well. They do it cheaper for cash.

also...
TV's I'd go the LG

DVD's I'd go for LG or Pioneer.

Props to ya for not watching TV for so long you havent missed much. I tried giving up telly but am too addicted.
Still good stuff on SBS and Ch2 I suppose.
