Hey Ya, Anyone Bored Tomorrow Night????

Late last year i posted a thread about a DJ Competition that I was in. Well its on again and my heat is on this Tuesday Night at the RG Corner Bar in the Valley. Starts at about 8-830ish.

Normally there are 6 to 8 Dj's get to play for 20mins each. Most of the Dj's would play House, Hard House, Breaks, DnB, Trance and NRG. The Competition is just a bunch of Amateur DJ mixing in some songs (nothing fancy will happen, like it does at the DMC battles).

I'll be playing more of the commercial house songs with a couple of home made remixers that i have set up for the night. I saw most of you at the Family last friday night and most of you enjoy the music their, so u might enjoy the night. I know Snakeman is coming and Rev said he was going to come but he has to work.

Hope to see you their. Any Question just post

hey mate,

i played a couple of weeks ago. if its any help i think you'll feel a tad more comfortable leaving your commercial shiz in ya crate and taking the decent stuff...the crowd are all chin stroking trainspotters so if you drop call on me into the mix you'll get some weird stares

What's the go with playing copyright material in these comps?

i imagine RG's pay their apra fee's so you don't have to worry about it, as long as you are playing legitimately bought music

Don't you have to submit a list of sampled music prior to playing?

I'm the Other Tall guy at Work. Kat.

"pillsy". Last time I played my commercial set and i made it into the wildcard finals....Plus I'm droping call on me and weekend (hows that for commercial haha)..Three reasons why i'm doing this;

1. Because I know half the people their will not play the commercial music.

2. Half my fan base is going to be their and they love the commercial s***.

3. Goes will with my own remixes that i'm using.

However I am doing fast mixers, so a max. of 2 and half mins for each song is only needed.

Answer the question with copywrite stuff: It doesn't matter cos you will not be the one getting into trouble, and if u wanna enter its better to use vinyl because their cd players are really old.

I mainly use cds all the time cos you can do so much more with cdj players nowadays, plus the singles are alot cheaper than what they sell for on vinyl

this is slightly off topic, but are there places in brisbane where one could lean dj'ing/turntabling?
just curious.

you don't really get taught dude

someone spends 10 minutes showing you the basics..the rest is pretty much just messing with it till you can beatmatch, then learning how to mix/eq etc. if you knuckle down you should be tight in a couple of weeks

I agree dude, its not worth it paying someone else to teach you how to play. They charge like $50 an hour....and as pillsy said they would only show u the basics then to mixing (which is like 20-30mins). Then its a screw-around session.

Every Tuesday between 10.30am - 12.30pm you can book a 30 minute dj workshop downstairs at Rocking Horse Records. An expert instructor can tutor your session on 100% Technics equipment or you can also book untutored practice session. All sessions to be booked a minimum of 7 days in advance. All clients are to provide their own stylus, vinyl and/or cd’s.

Session Times: Tuesdays Only
10.30am - 11.00am
11.00am - 11.30am
11.30am - 12.00pm
12.00pm - 12.30pm

i think its a blackbeat/rocking horse promotion. so you might be lucky and get gavin (big boyd) for a session (one of brisbanes best dj's)

Yeah pillsy, problem is that i never really personally knew people who did that sort of stuff...
though in the end i'll probably just end up making silly crap on acid or reason (yeah i know, thats not dj'ing)

btw, xek, i couldn't find any info about that on the rocking horse website
