I doubt many of you care.....but i think you might find it funny to see how much i will have to study in the 2nd Year of Veterinary.

I have 22 HOURS!!! of pracs every week.

All up i have 36 hours of classes every week......that aint including study time.

Dont most uni people have like 10 hours a week? So yeah there goes any social life that i had.....oh well.

I feel your pain.
I have college 3 days a week and because I chose to do an accelerated DipIT my total hours of being on campus is 30 a week.

I also work on Thursdays and Fridays for 8-9 hours. So I'm doing 46 hours a week minumum and sometimes up to 54 hours total a week [casual Sunday work].

I dont think i am gonna have time to have a job =\
At uni basiclly from 8-5 from monday to friday means i will only be able to work on the weekend. And good luck for me, a 20 year old getting a job over a 16 year old. I never got any shifts on the weekends at my old job. BAH

When I did science we were at uni for 25hours a week. It wasn't that bad, when you think about it all you'd be doing otherwise would be sitting at home bumming around.

yeah when i did law it was like 20 hours but some of my mates doing engineering and other science stuff were more like 38.

don't worry you will be working heaps more than that on earth once you leave uni.

smashingpumpkin - Uni isn't 10 hours a week. It is usually 10 or so contact hours a week but you are suppose to study and research for the other 30ish

So i should therefore be dedicating 66 hours of a week to uni?

But the standard uni week is ten!

The standard time spent per course is 5 hours a week* (give or take). This consists of only official lectures, tuts and pracs. So a 'standard' uni week of 4 courses should should be 20 hours without overloading.

Though at UQ, lecturers throw in optional 'Contact' sessions which don't count towards the 5 hours to help with harder courses. Uni policy prevents them from asking for more than 5 hours a week for some reason.

* = from my experience at UQ and Griffith anyway.

Welcome to Uni. Those are recommended hours that you _should_ be doing if you're aiming high i.e.you want to get good grades, you don't have to do them to the T but your grade will reflect the amount of work you've put in - unless you're one of those people who's just a freak and just absorb and retain knowledge quickly without a lot of work.

Seeing that you're doing a medicine field, the long hour is to be expected, get use to it.

I am quite proud of the fact that in my fourth year of IT doing honours I had 6 contact hours a week, not including meetings with my supervisor. I think my worst year for contact hours was first year. And I really didn't do much work outside of uni... I don't know how I got away with it (stay in school kiddies).

Really, it's all to do things inversely...when you're a highly-paid medical practicioner, be it human or animal, you can piss off early and cancel appointments to get in that round of golf with "the lads".

And drive expensive cars.

Short-term pain for long-term gain. :)

Wow! And at the end you will be getting mega bucks. You should try working in IT. You will be frequently working 50+ hours for 1/3 of what a vet will get. You will be on call 24/7 in some cases and end abusers will make your life hell :] You will have no social life...you will feel like telling your friends to f*** off because you know they're as dumb as the cock head end users at work....

my contact hours at uni were ~16 hours a week usually.

but lectures were optional so compulsory stuff was 4 hours worth of tutorials if i did 4 subjects, and thats pretty much all I did at uni for 5 years.

omg only f***ing 38 hrs that is nothing man. if you think you will be doing less than that once you are finsihed uni then you are on drugs.

i was working 100 hr weeks now you try having a social life when you are working 6 day weeks man. you don't want to do s*** on your day off because you are too f***ed.

i was working 6 day weeks 10 hr days and i still had a social life, learn to manage your time better.
