LENGTH: 96 minuntes
YEAR: 2004 RATING: PG RELEASE:16th March Anne Hathaway....Ella Cary Elwes....Edgar Joanna Lumley.... Dame Olga Minnie Driver.... Mandy Eric Idle.... Narrator Steve Coogan....Heston (voice) Vivica A. Fox....Lucinda Patrick Bergin....Sir Peter Based on Gail Carson Levine's award winning novel, this is the story of Ella, a young woman who was given a "gift" of obedience by a fairy named Lucinda. Anything anyone tells her to do, she must obey. When her mother passes away, Ella is cared for by her thoughtless and greedy father who remarries a loathsome woman with two treacherous daughters. This modern-day, fantasy Cinderella features fairies, ogres and elves...as well as a hero in the guise of Prince Charmont, whom Ella falls in love with. Unlike Cinderella though, Ella must depend on herself and her intelligence to get her through her troubles and find Lucinda in order for her "curse" to be broken! What a delightfully wickedly charming movie! Nah, just kidding, but it is a cool movie. Strictly family material here although it sort of reminded me of such hits as The Princess Bride and Willow. I know it is nothing like them as in the same calibre of, but it's still a cool movie to sit thru none-the-less. The sets are actually quite awesome, the colours are really f***ing amazing. Definately not a cheaply made movie that's for sure. I watched this yesterday and after sitting thru the tripe that was Ocean's 12 this was a real winner. There's no guessing how it's all gonna end either, but that's standard with something like this. Also had a real A Knights Tale feel to this too. Using heaps of well known songs in alot of the scenes with all the characters singing along to such hits as Queen's - Somebody To Love and Eltons John's - Dont Go Breaking My Heart it gave it that little bit of an edge. Anyway, this is no musical and I'm speaking too much s*** so it pains me to finish this awesome review. So the movie comes out on DVD on the 16th March and if you're after something a little light hearted with a nice story and an awesome chicky-babe as the lead, then you can't go wrong with this. For a fun factor and amazing scenery I give this 5 stars. It has it's flaws but I'd rather watch this again than watch the last two Star Wars movies. http://www.members.optushome.com.au/gpahl/ella01.jpg.http://www.members.optushome.com.au/gpahl/ella02.jpg http://www.members.optushome.com.au/gpahl/ella03.jpg |
