Quick question.

I am trying to organise a dinner at a decent quality Japanese restaurant, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience or information about any Japanese restaurants in the city, valley or within the vicinity of these areas.

Possibly an all you can eat Japanese sushi and teppenyaki would be extremely helpful, but at the moment, just trying to find opinions of what people have experienced and their recommendations.

Cheers in advance :-D

All you can eat Sukiyaki on Sunday dinner is at Sono in the city - last time I went it costs $25 per head all you can eat Sukiyaki (meat and vegs etc). They're also an excellent Japanese restaurant, we always go there.

Note, you'll have to bring your phat lewt as this ain't your run of the mill sushi train ;) - to give you a rough idea a dinner for two (2 x Egg custard + 1xSono Sashimi plate + 2xEels Kabayaki + 1xMedium size Saki + 1xGreen tea Icream) works out to be about $100+.

Not cheap but, if you like Japanese food, wanted to try a good one, you'll like this one.

Personal recommendation would be thier Sono Sashimi platter/sushi platter. Good value as you get a plate of a few things. Followed that with either a Tempura udon or Eel Kabayaki (Grilled Eels on rice) and you're set ;). Make sure you have a hot Saki or Japanese beer with the meals - they a great compliment.

Also I've heard good things about Oyama in the Valley, IIRC a very good chef that used to work for Oshin in the city (we used to eat there before he went to work for Sono and then left and then resurfaced) worked there now. I haven't tried it myself though. I think is the one Cr@ckerJ@ck is talking about.

Hope that helps

Ive been to oyama and it was great. I only had tepanyaki though and thats probably not such a great gauge of their food overall. Their service was great, the tepanyaki chef was a champ. While super f***off expensive, they are badass for a group dinner. Its like good food made more fun. I caught eggs in an egg cup cause im eleet. :P

If that is the $22-ish buffet, then I recommend this too. Soo much to eat. I had 10+ plates along with soup and green-tea icecream and couldn't move.

Little tokyo in the city is not bad, they have shabushabu sukiyaki teppenyaki etc etc

It's f***ing expensive though and they dont give you much food. BUT the woman who runs it is japanese and you can order in japanese etc if you really like.

I have lived in japan and eaten basically all japanese foods available and i can say its preeetty much spot on. They didnt have sesame based sauce for the shabushabu which shat me off and it didnt taste QUITE as good as japan. But, i am a tough judge its actually pretty good.

I will also vote for Oyama. Food was good, layout inside is a bit crowded though.

Also German, Yum Cha isn't Japanese, jackass. It isn't even Chinese, for that matter.

Sono in the city is excellent.
