Anyone here know where I can possibly buy old stuff like an old VAX system? I wouldn't mind having one of them for my loungeroom - they're a part of computing history and are quite a talking point. Anyone?

To an ordinary joe they don't look special but to people like me who like old computer gear, they're quite interesting to toy with for a bit. I guess it has something to do with the fact that you're playing with something that was once considered to be powerful, perhaps even somewhere close to a supercomputer.

I have one of these. I don't even know what it is, or what it's meant to be for.

Hunter's dinner party conversational piece:

"Hey hunter, whats that piece of s*** in the corner."
"I'm glad you asked. Thats a VAX, its an important part of comp..."
"Don't care, faget."

At which point 5 of his friends give him an atomic wedgie.

Ah, but before he does that he says "I bet I can drink you all under the table!!" and then does.

Thereby avoiding the atomic wedgie.

Of courtse, the next day they set fire to him in a horrific lighter fluid accident, but that's how these things invariably turn out.

While i dont have a VAX i have a multitude of Alphastations (had 5, have 2 now) and an alphaserver, quite capable of running VMS.

But s***. I want these things to be useful at the same time. Hence i shoved a distro of linux on them. Useful now.

Cant really imagine having one sitting in the corner doing SFA either.

edit: if you do want the alphaserver tho, lemme know. Its a peice of history :P (AlphaServer 400, no HDD tho)
