Topic: Light or Heavy Sleeper ?

Greetings and Salutations,

Balling my eyes out here for the first time in a while... and the obvious thing for me to do is create a kat-like thread. So I start to wonder, are any of you peeps out there light or heavy sleepers ?

I know one friend of mine sleeps like he's a rock. I had to literally stand on top of him to try and wake him but he barely moves. I can't imagine trying to wake him while he's drunk. On the contrary, there are people like me that can wake up to the sound of a door screetching or a car driving past.

I see both pros and cons of the two situations, but what are your thoughts and experiences ?

I'm a heavy sleeper and only things like my alarm or phone ringing will wake me. I could sleep through an earthquake and not notice.

The same friend sets off 4 to 5 different alarms at 2 mintue intervals and he still hardly wakes up. I find that a lil worrying especially when you have to go to an important event/meeting the next morning.

Yer about 10 months ago, I slept through the earthquake around Ferny Grove... Not even my alarm wakes me up, I just set it, then mum wakes up (other side of house) and comes down to turn it off and wake me :D

I guess I'm a fairly heavy sleeper. At school camp last year someone in the room tried popping a balloon next to me but that didn't work :P

Unfortunately I've got the internal alarm clock set at 6:30am because of school :(. Takes a week or so of holidays to be able to sleep in again.

My sisters slept through a local shopping strip blowing up (gas leak) at 5 am one morning a few years ago... shook the f***ing house and alarms were going off everywhere - we were only 3 or 4 streets away too.

How heavy I sleep really depends on how much light is in the room. In my old house my room was dark as a cave regardless of time of day and I'd sleep like a log till 12pm without disturbance of people moving about and talking in the house. Now in the my new house it lights up bright at about 7am and I get woken up by someone having a shower in the bathroom nearby.

I really like my sleep, in fact I like it so much that I hate my alarm. I've got a polyphonic phone, and the alarm sort of stutters before really kicking in. That first stutter has a really distinctive sound, and anything that sounds even REMOTELY like it gives me this pavlovian adrenaline response.

Tonight at work, a customer had someone clink two glasses together in the background, which, over her bodgy mobile sounded like the alarm stutter. I freaked out, I jumped about a foot in my seat and started breathing heavily - and felt angry.

I hate it :(

i'm an extremely light sleeper, i wake up at the slightest noise, or even the smallest amount of light on my face.

i've always been a bad sleeper, been there and done the insomnia thing.

depends how long I've been asleep for. first/last 3rd I'll be rather easy to wake up, during the middle 3rd of my sleep it's almost impossible to wake me up.

Roommate is weird, sleeps through anything (inc his fkn alarm which keeps going till you turn it off =/). Tho he'll jump and wake up instantly if you say his name, go figure.

I'm both.
I sleep really heavy sometimes, nothing will wake me up and i have to be shaken violently to get woken up.
Other times, the slightest sound of a ladybug walking will have me sitting bolt upright.

And then different sounds wake me up - like my alarm clock always will, as will my dog crying.. but I can sleep through possums jumping from the tree to the roof above my bedroom.

:D @ the 'pavlonian adrenaline response'
Sleep; 50/50 heavy light.

I mastered the art of face down on forearm on desk yrs ago. You just gotta be careful of the mark some fabrics leave on your forehead if you don't want people to spot it. If necessary I do this 2-3 times a day.
Guess that makes me a combo of both cos I gotta wake up quick alot, though generally I sleep quite heavily.

Im Similar actually, my phone rining scares the s*** outta me. I freak out and HAVE to find it so i can turn it off!

Im usually a pretty light sleeper, there are a few rare occasions where im out like a log, mainly after a rave or something.
Oh and dont try wake me up by shaking me, i tried to punch my mum one morning! lol I normally will wake up to the sound of the door opening! :)

I sleep like a dead man, no alarm I've ever bought wakes me up. I put the phone next to me and get wakeup calls when I have an early tee-off or an important event to wake up for. My mrs pulls the hair on my legs with tweazers to wake me up, she reckons its the quickest way :/

However when I was doing standard working week I woke up at 7am every f***in day including sunday no matter how late I hit the sack, except of course if I was drunk.

I can't sleep unless every light in my room is hidden so I just cover me PC in a sheet before going to bed.

lol @ pavlovian adrenaline response

I get the same thing with my mobile, anything that sounds like my shrill alarm tone (which I can't change) and my heart goes crazy.

I'm a deep sleeper once I get going, cause I can stay awake for like two days straight if need be, but once I'm gone I'm gone for ages.

I also hate damn led lights, on my old monitor and case I coloured a piece of paper black with texta and used stickytape to cover over the leds :D
