News article

AN ultra-violent video game sold in Australia has been blamed for the cold-blooded slaying of a schoolboy by his teenage friend.

Warren Leblanc, 17, yesterday admitted he repeatedly battered friend Stefan Pakeerah, 14, with a claw hammer and knife after luring him to a British park.

The method of the killing and weapons used mimicked the disturbing game Manhunt, in which a man roams a city massacring every person he encounters.
Shiiiit. Well this has added more fuel to the fire of this endless debate of violent games breeding violent boys.

Personally, I think its just that people are f***ed up and will do f***ed up s*** no matter what they are exposed to. Violent movies or whatever.

Although I havent played this manhunt game, I have played other violent games for years now and have never felt the urge to strafe down the hall with a plasma rifle. I actually hate the sight of blood.

Its not that hard to draw the line between games and reality.

I see no harm in introducing the R18 classification for certain ultra violent games in Australia. But that's cause im over 18 ofcourse.

after luring him to a British park

Didn't realize we had British parks in Australia.

Anyway, he's prolly blaming the game because he knows he's f***ed...I would.

Well im going to go to New Farm/Valley in my car pickup a prostitute, take her in an alley, make my car shake side to side with both of us sitting there, then im gonna get out, bash her across the head with a baseball bat and take my money back. But my health will be full so its ok. The game said i could!

Oh dear I have no control what so ever over my own life nor the secisions that I make, it must be someone/something fault not mine. As if you would know by time your 17 that beating someone to death is wrong.

Hopefully this will bring out a R18+ clasification for games and that will be the end of the story.

people are just looking to shift blame, like exposure to a violent video game blurrs the lines of whats right and wrong, its the dumbest thing i have ever heard.

When are they going to realise that these f***ers who snap that way WOULD have done it even if games weren't available.

Would have been infinitely more freaky if you'd followed that up with "We won't let them take you away from us, my preciousss".

manhunt is a freakin cool game

you play the actor in some sick directors film, and if you dont kill people in the most gory possible fashion, then he'll kill you.

This guy was probably pushed over the edge by the mind numbing monotony of manhunt.

I'm surprised that the game was even made in the first place.

The very premise of it is disturbing enough. I wouldn't make it for the simple fact that you know a game of it's type is obviously gonna give you headaches.

Despite the allegations now being made about the influence of the game on Leblanc, the actual motive given for the killing by prosecutor Peter Joyce QC was a rather more obvious one; the teen had lured his friend to a deserted car park with the intent of robbing him to pay a drugs-related debt.

We don't. The article says the game that is being blamed is for sale in Australia (as well as everywhere else) not that the incident happened here.

WhiteWolf, theres no problems there, so long as there's no titties in it. You can destroy entire cities in games but throw some sexual themes in there and its banned!

I like it how the media just says that you wander the streets killing everyone you see. You are forced to kill gang members, who society would thank cops for killing, because if you dont some f***ing nut will kill you and in one part of the game, your family... :P
