I bought Q's xbox the other day, and im now playing with xbox linux http://www.xbox-linux.org/
i havnt got around to reading the guide to running it off teh hd yet (only from cd, and its slow :s), but im getting there anyone else used this? Also, i tried this http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbox-windows/ (Windows CE on xbox), basically all it can do is load the kernal (as said in its documents), but with mine teh screen is all flickery and you cant read it, was wondering if anyone has tried it and got it to work? screenshot from xbox scene http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/4/wince/WindowsCExbox.jpg Im getting some controller-usb converters for it next week ($9ea, easier then making my own), and was wondering if i got a $20 usb kb & mouse, would the keyboard work in it (in stuff besides linux, like games.etc - where its hard to use a controller)? |

Don't need a keyboard and that for linux, telnet + vnc is your friend.

nup the application has to be written to support the keboard/usb device. I think possibly mod chip makers/bios coders could possibly remap the keyboard to make it look like an xbox controller(to the xbox). that'd be cool to see.

From my experience linux on xbox isnt worth it. Sure its fun to setup (i used gentoox) but it runs like a sack of s***. Personally I wouldnt waste money on usb adapters for the controller ports etc.

sif use USB adaptors and sif use modchips.
...lazy bums...doing it yourself is soo much cheaper. and you can basicly softmod every xbox system now. and what do you mean buying a $9 usb adactor is easier than taping 6 same-coloured wired together? I'll do it for you for $8 :P last edited by Impiety at 00:42:09 31/Jul/04 |

I dont mind a bit of soldering, I certainly wouldn't go buying cables and s***.
I'll go and read more about softmoding. |

With the converters you don't have to sacrafice gameports. But honestly, the VNC package with gentoox is your friend. Hell, you can even use it through your browser.
