I'm going to the premiere of The Life and Times of Peter Sellers (or whatever it is called).
Advanced screenings can be packed, it's usually handy to get there early. Hard to say with a movie like that... |

This advance screening you speak of, is it a private thing? Or can anyone rock up tonight and buy tickets for it?

Yeh I've read some bad overseas reviews of TCOR. It does look rather f***ed up and drowning in CGI

What was wrong with it? And what would have been the right way then?
I didn't have any problem with it, it wasn't meant to be a tribute to Isaac Asimov or even a film adaptation of the book, it clearly says in the credits it was inspired by a story by Isaac Asimov which means they went "Hey, thats a cool concept" and then made their own movie about it. |

Way too much product placement, it did take away from what little story was there. It seemed like the characters were exactly the same as every other action movie..
Black cop, thinks he is onto something, no one listens, higher up/boss yells at him, takes his badge away, *some dragging crap* he was right END. Oh, dont forget to throw in a girl that you know they are going to hook up sooner or later. |

It was better than the usual hollywood blockbuster turds that they've been pumping out of late. But once you've seen the previews ... you've pretty much seen the movie. |

Yeah, what was the deal with the doctor killing himself. I especially like how he tells the homicide detecive essentially how to do his job "follow the clues". Other than that, the three laws at the start contradict themself in the movie, ie the robots injuring humans, and also, the CGI car 'chase' was ridiculous. It's amazing how no other vehicles use that road during the night, and even more amazing how little robots just enter the freeway to clean up while the road is still open. Where do they drop the rubbish? Into a pit which leads to the centre of the earth? Good thing Pshyco changed departments, or else he'd be out of a job in 30 years time. I think it's 30 anyway, the date was written on the screen, but it's amazing how far the world develops so soon. Also go the barbaric house demolisher. Yeah, futuristic... Doesn't even bother getting all the furnishings out. "hey some dude's dead, quick knock the house down". "But sir, what about his beneficiary, it states here that he is entitled to it". "Who cares, demolish it and everything inside with one of those transformers". That's scratching the surface as well.
edit: the car chase was as ridiculous as my spelling last edited by 290 at 11:03:35 29/Jul/04 |

The robots would have blocked off the road. (they controlled pretty much everything)
The laws contradict themselves? No s*** wasn't that kind of the point near the end. And if you mean the robots that attacked Will Smith, then it was pretty damn obvious the laws were circumvented. Who the f*** cares where the rubbish went, really? Obviously "they" wanted the house demolished in case there was any evidence in there. Why the f*** is it always so obvious these "nitpickers" didnt pay attention to the movie? |

Yet again 290 comes into a movie thread, points out 'plot holes' he has figured out himself which can all be reasonably explained and aren't in fact plot holes at all.

Well the thread was kinda about TCOR. I have seen this uhhh on an aeroplane, yeh taht'll do. And I loved it. If you liked pitch black you will like it too. It is an epic story with kick ass fight scenes an d not too much soppy romance. The SFX are tops and during the long movie I was constantly entertained. Oh yeah don't forget the cool ass corny one liners. But if you want class go read shakespeare.
Oh and I, Robot was entertaining but I generally don't expect too much from movies with Will Smith. |

Why the f*** is it always so obvious these "nitpickers" didnt pay attention to the movie? 290 was obviously too busy giving his boyfriend blowjobs, so its understandable that he missed parts of the movie and is under the impression it didn't make sense. |

Nah, all that's obvious is that you guys like simplistic, retarded Holloywood movies which concentrate on cliches, CGI and nonsence.
BTW, they're all perfectly good points, WTF is with those robots who clear a car crash away? What about proving who was at fault for insurance? The 3 laws. Can't remember them word for word, but Robots can't harm a human, this means even if one sees a person assaulting another human, he can't harm the first one. That big destructo robot? Who would invent something when dynamite does a more effective job. You guys must be spastic if you'd believe a house could be demolished with everything inside. Explain why the doc suicided? Why not leave a note hidden somewhere? Or SHOCK! - use the telephone. Oh hang on, that would mean they'd have to put thought into making it a logical movie. Can't have that, idiots wouldn't pay money to see it then. |

Dude he was locked in his room by the AI Viki. She also cut off his communication, or faked it. He would have been locked in for weeks and had no other choice to make an effective message. He looked depressed and suicidal anyway.

BTW, they're all perfectly good points, WTF is with those robots who clear a car crash away? What about proving who was at fault for insurance? Ok, USR are the big bad guys behind it all right? And guess who made and controls the cleaning robots... yep, USR. So did you stop to think maybe thats not normal behaviour and they were sent out to remove all the evidence? Of course, a normal person who is just along to the enjoy the movie wouldn't give a s***, but I guess you're far from normal. The 3 laws. Can't remember them word for word, but Robots can't harm a human, this means even if one sees a person assaulting another human, he can't harm the first one. As Bah said, the laws were being circumvented in those crazy robots. Their uplink was turned on and they were being controlled, so they weren't necessarily bound by the three laws anymore. Come on, that had to be pretty obvious, that the robots were not operating in the way they were intended to operate, its hardly a plot hole. That big destructo robot? Who would invent something when dynamite does a more effective job. You guys must be spastic if you'd believe a house could be demolished with everything inside. Well it was originally not meant to be demolished till the following morning, so maybe some removalist robots or something were schedule to turn up and clean everything out. Remember, the time on the robot was changed to try and kill Will Smith. Also, why use a big destruction robot rather than dynamite? Cos its really f***en cool, and if you can't appreciate that, I pity you. Explain why the doc suicided? Why not leave a note hidden somewhere? Or SHOCK! - use the telephone. Oh hang on, that would mean they'd have to put thought into making it a logical movie. Can't have that, idiots wouldn't pay money to see it then. Maybe cos the phones were being tapped? Maybe cos he was being watched all the time and had no privacy? If he left a note he'd still need to find some way to tell people where he left the note, and then he'd be back to square 1 again. Maybe you should stop looking at every movie like it has to be some award winning masterpiece, and learn to just enjoy cool action movies with kickass robots and awesome special effects. Its not meant to make you think, its meant to entertain and make you go "phwoar". |

WTF is with those robots who clear a car crash away? What about proving who was at fault for insurance? I'd say that it would be pretty easy to explain. Perhaps that is exactly what these thing are doing and all in order to prevent further accidents 1. Collecting all evidence before it is contaminated by foreign objects 2. Removing potential hazards in order to prevent further accidents Given a society with tech advances as far as these, it's not that far a stretch to believe that sensors mounted in the freeway have the ability to recreate ANY incident in a complex 3D environment. However, as it was an attempted murder by an advanced system, this was probably taken advantage of to remove any trace of the crime. Try thinking outside of the square before you call it a plothole. I like these kind of things in a movie as it opens up my own interpretation of an event created by myself (y'know, like books do when you read em). Get an imagination dude an stop being anal about unimportant s*** |

Cos its really f***en cool, and if you can't appreciate that, I pity you.Yeah, narly dude. Maybe cos the phones were being tapped? What's the worst that could happen to him? VIKI could kill him? If the robot can break then jump out the window and survive, why not just tell the robot to run to the police station with info? Maybe you should stop looking at every movie like it has to be some award winning masterpieceI don't, it's just that some movies really do suck learn to just enjoy cool action moviesI prefer ones with feasible plots with kickass robotsRobots looked like pansies. You would have loved that, pity you pulled off and blew your load over Will Smith in the shower but. and awesome special effectsYeah, that car chase contained 'awesome special effects'. It looked so realistic. Its not meant to make you thinkWell that's the thing that seperates people like you from people who have come to expect logic in life. I try not to reply with such large posts, but I find it so easy to pay out movies like this because it doesn't make sense. And don't get me started on the advertisements. |

For those who wanted to know, Life and Death of Peter Sellers was pretty good. It kinda made me want to go out and rent some Pink Panther vids.
Would have been better if they didn't have sneaky camera angles to prevent Charlize's bits not showing in the love scenes. |

I wouldn't bother bah it's a waste of time, don't bother explaining things to him, he's another 'clipto'. I just thought it worthwhile to point out that you don't waste your time trying to explain things, because your a troll, and simply don't have the capacity to do it. I mean just look at your posts in this thread, not only are they totally and utterly off topic, but they are meant to be insulting, although you really didn't pull that off, calling him another clipto and all. Man I bet you have never had a dissenting opinion in your life, waiting for everyone else to trounce this guy befor you throw in your two cents, and even then theres really nothing to it. On topic: I robot was a pretty cheesy movie and its hardly unreasonable to expect something better from it considering it bears the same name as a classic sci fi piece. I really enjoyed it though, especially the product placement, I mean i just laughed so f***ing hard. |

Why didnt anyone comment about my point, that the characters have been used so many times in other movies, down to a f***ing tee. And the storyline is a tiny bit different, as follows, exchange bad guys for robots.
Read my last post, cbf explaining it all again If you want to see a really good movie, well scripted, well acted and just generally cool camera angles (including changing scenes, explaining what is happening) go see shaun of the dead. Yea I can see how you came to your opinion astroboy, but ultimately theres not a story around that you can't break down into 1 of 3 or so fundamental lines. Which is pretty f***ed but there you have it.

I liked The Chronicles Of Riddick. I don't really get into Vin Diesel movies but this one was cool. Only problem I found was that it didn't really focus around the bad guys and it seemed to go off in two directions. The movie could've easlily gone for maybe half an hour more and it would've been much more clearer. Needed more info between the bad dudes and Riddick, but overall it's a cool movie.

Ya I thought COTR was pretty good and enjoyable. Especially that end fight scene. Although I was hanging for Riddick getting into a rip with that kick ass long rats tailed commander after the lord marshall got taken out. I wish they showed more of what he can do.

They did kinda leave it open for a another movie, what would he do now that hes the commander of a all powerfull killing race that has already wiped out half the universe, and had plans to off the rest? Did the underverse actually exist? How did that dude get half-dead? It left heaps of fairly interesting questions to be answered.

I thought TCOR was pretty awesome, cool fight scenes, great effects, and plenty of Vin Diesel being an absolute hardcore badass.
The only bit I didn't like was the end where he ended up in control of the army, that was stupid. Riddick is meant to be this hardcore badass loner guy, not commander of some dark army. Seriously stupid direction for them to take the character in. |
