www.bombshellzine.com article here with an overview and the direct link to the mp3 is here.

Basically Frenzal Rhomb piss off a radio personality (jacki o?) by talking/playing over her MCing at a show she shows up 9 hours late for. She interviews them about it later, threatening to "bury the band". A guy from Frenzal Rhomb basically uses the interview as a forum to bitch about the Austrlian music industry and all this reality tv trash we see these days. Its pretty good.

edit: If anyone listens to the triplej hack interview they are supposedly going to do maybe you could link to it and mention if its worth catching...

Tuesdays hack segment on this starts at 1:20

Wednesdays hack hack segment on this starts at 9:19

The hack segments basically just give an overview and say that they are dodging an interview despite agreeing to give one, funny stuff.

Oh, and don't forget to vote for "frenzal rhomb - all your friends think your a f***head" on the radio station in question's top30.

Thursdays hack
here. starts at 19:20

This one was quite good, the radio stations producer is still dodging the agreed upon interview, but it was some more nice commentary, and they did some research into if commercial radio stations are in fact burying Australian music.

UPDATE : here.
is a link to monday nights media watch that shows footage for FR throwing Jackie O off the stage and some other stuff. All the other links should be dead now and this one will probably only be valid untill 9/08/04.

Transcripts of the media watch show.
here.

I don't understand anything of what you just said. Except the 85% part, which seems like a pretty spurious statistic. I don't know why anyone would listen to commercial radio, the advertisements alone make me gag.

around the 15-20min mark there's an even more interesting article with an Aussie journo taking comments from the senior staff of both the Arab and US media who are focussing their time and energies over in Iraq atm. Pretty short - would make for good reading (if anyone has any linkage on the JJJ report).

er.. back on topic and stuff

Haha, that Kyle guy - what an absolute cock. I wish I listed to his lame commercial radio station, just so I could stop listening to it now.

edit, I think this is news post worthy now, its a fascinating look at the patheticness of commercial radio and despite their best efforts, makes mainstream music and TV look like the schlock it really is.

Kyle you sir a total f***wit, if after 16 years in the business you have never been handed a Frenzal Rhomb cd to play, after all they charted top 40 a few years ago, FFS if VH1 plays them, Kyle after 16 years in the industry son perhaps you should get a f***ing clue.

As for Jackie O, my god woman you lay waste to people on the radio and tv, and when someone with substance calls you out for what you are, you go to pieces. Good to see you can't take what you dish out.

Thank f*** for Frenzal Rhomb, go you good thing.

Frenzal Rhomb seems to have an irrational fear of Australian Idol and I can't understand why. In a recent concert Frenzal Rhomb was purported to say, "f*** Popstars! f*** Idol!". In any other industry this would be interpreted as someone scared of the competition. You could imagine the buzz if Bill Gates of Microsoft yelled out, "f*** Apple. f*** Lunix", in one of his keynotes.

This is strange because Frenzal Rhomb is not under serious threat from the winners of Popstars or Idol. The target audience of Idol and Popstars is almost completely disjoint from the punk audience that Frenzal Rhomb targets. Infact punk and popular music are opposite poles on the music spectrum and punk audiences and bands frequently sneer at popular music icons and their fans.

This polarization also excludes solidarity as an excuse for Frenzal Rhomb's fears. Frenzal Rhomb isn't really concerned about the fate of pop stars. So they shouldn't really care if they have to face some extra competition.

If there is no rational explanation for their fear then maybe it is not really fear. Maybe Frenzal Rhomb is as fake as the popstars they sneer at. And are spewing forth torrents of anti-the-man hoo-hah as a way to play to the choir.

maybe you just don't have a clue hast. They have been around fort ages. They aren't scared of losing their fans to popstars. They just say they suck. They even said it themselves, all good Aussie bands including You Am I are missing out because of commercial arrangements. etc

"In a recent concert Frenzal Rhomb was purported to say, "f*** Popstars! f*** Idol!"."

Did you even listen to the interview? The Frenzal Rhomb guy and the interviewers clearly stated this was said, it wasn't "purported" at all.

In any other industry this would be interpreted as someone scared of the competition. You could imagine the buzz if Bill Gates of Microsoft yelled out, "f*** Apple. f*** Lunix", in one of his keynotes.

Is this your opinion that you have sat down and typed yourself? How can you compare Apple and MS to 2 different bands, people listen to the music they like, because they listen to FR fans won't stop listening to another band, bands are not in competition with each other in the same sense as Apple and MS.

Either way, FR's opinion was clearly stated in the interview, they are pissed because the Recording Industry is dropping established Aussie bands and making room for the SIX LOSERS from some Idols show who sing covers.

If there is no rational explanation for their fear then maybe it is not really fear.

Yea, maybe your entire opinion has absolutely no base whatsoever, tell me, did you listen to the interview? I mean the guy from the band was clearly quaking in his boots.

Maybe Frenzal Rhomb is as fake as the popstars they sneer at. And are spewing forth torrents of anti-the-man hoo-hah as a way to play to the choir.

Seemed to me they were standing up for other bands, and for their audience, who already had to deal with the fact that their set was reduced by eight songs, and some bitch was getting up on stage to deprive them of even more.

(why didnt this post format correctly?)

What I think the hosts of the hot30 missed in their very fast rush to judge was that Frenzel Rhomb are against how the commercial radio stations 'push' the made for tv etc bands. Jackie o, as a host (or was it judge) of popstars is just a figurehead for the system. When they said f*** jackie o it seemed to me that they were just saying f*** the establishment, personified or whatever, by jackie o. Regardless, what they say is pretty true, even if it was maybe a bit brash and left them open.

They did apolgise in the interview, so I dont know what your complaining about there, whoever said that they didnt. He said he was sorry if it offended her, was never ment to.

It was Ground Zero, and they played, you cant move into my house changing all the lyrics...till the last chorus. They got escorted out for doing it.

Frenzal Rhomb seems to have an irrational fear of Australian Idol and I can't understand why. In a recent concert Frenzal Rhomb was purported to say, "f*** Popstars! f*** Idol!".

You are obviously wrong, everyone here can see what angle they are coming from bar you. Frenzal are passionate about all the aussie bands that arent getting the recognition that they deserve and how one of australia's biggest act (atm) is from Australian Idol and just does covers songs. It shows how much they care by putting their asses on the line over it. They have worked their way to where they are, no f***ing auditions, no f***ing 10 weeks of singing 1 song a week and then BAM your there.

I coundnt agree more that these reality TV shows are ruining australian music and b105 doesnt help. This is also culture. The day I knew it was falling on its ass when I walked into a pub to a Boy band playing. WTF!

Kyle is a f***wit, just having a quick look through their site,
"If it wasn't for... The money ... I wouldn't be doing this job" And jackie-o comes across as if she believes the world revolves around her, turning up to a gig 9 hours late. All lindsay said was "jackie-o wtf", boo f***ing hoo. I remember 1 year there was some guy at livid doing bad jokes before frenzal and the crowd was going nuts, if your piss farting around and delaying a frenzal set, dont expect a warm welcome. And all kyle can do is threaten to stop playing their songs (that isnt his call) and say I would have started a fight. Wow that must have used all his brain power.
She was boo'ed off stage by the crowd and the whiny bitch had no one to blame but Frenzal, it isnt their fault no one likes her. I cant wait to see all the frenzal rhomb fans turn up to kyle and jackie-o's next public appearance.

Best call, "how is bardot going these days"
Anyway, if you feel like dropping them a line, jackieo@kyleandjackieo.com.

OMG redundant your so cool, your the only person that listens to 4ZZZ ...

But somehow I doubt it. I listen to it every so often. But at the end of the day there is only so many times you can listen to someone say "um ... err ..." before you want to change channels. That or that feminist show or whatever minority agenda has the microphone at the time. Also it has a huge spread on musical tastes with everything from drum and bass/jungle on a Friday night to old school jazz on a Saturday and Sunday morning. So sometimes its just not worth listening to (ie. the friday night show with some one blaring "yo this goes out to ... and all his homies yo" is not all that interesting to me)

For me the best drive to work station is JJJ, drive home I like She Bangs. The rest of the time surf the channels looking for something interesting... sometimes that even means ABC Classic FM!

Remember the Murray Hour on the old 4ZZZ in the 80's,

"and next we have W'itney Ouston, and dis one goes out to Billy and the boys out at Wacol, and all the Murray brothers out at (some place past the black stump)" haha every bloody song was either Whitbey Huston, Bobby Brown, Micheal Jackson or the Warumpi Band 'Black Fella/White Fella' (damned cool song), oh and they played Archie Roach 'Island Home' heaps as well.

God I miss the Murray Hour...

couldnt agree with frenzal more! good on them i say. everything he said was so true esp the australian content on aus stereo issue. i've had beef with the recording industry for a long time now and the radio networks are following suit now.

i reckon that the interviewers have a very elitest attitude and definitly lost the argument in a big way, the way they carried on was disgusting and if i was responsible for their employment they would be out on their ass.
