hey hey...


anyone able to tell me the easiest way to find out what type/speed of RAM that i have in my comp. i am in need of purchasing more ram and thus need to know this cruicial piece of information...yesh. i know i am a pc n00b, as some may say.

step one, hit the reset button on your computer.

step two, take note of what the POST screen says.

Doesn't that just say the amount, and not the speed?

Depending on your mobo, some of them report speed as well, although it'll be the speed the RAM is running at, not what its rated at.

Best way is to simply open your case and have a look, usually they should have stickers with the speed/size on them.

get a program called CPUz, it will tell u the brand, speed, ram timings while your pc is running (unless it cant recognize the ram). Worked on the sticks in all the pcs i have in the house

aida32 used to be good for that but it looks like they have merged with another company so you'll have to google for it and hope there's still a free download somewhere. It was alot like sisoft sandra, except it was free.
