Here's a snippet of info that a hardware tester and guy who has close links in ATI. His info has been pretty spot on in the past.

No the X800XT is going to obliterate the 6800 Ultra. I think Nvidia will have the edge in a few situations and thats about it. Other times the XT will simply Demolish the 6800 Ultra by a Huge amount. Especially in Shader intensive games and AA+AF at high resolutions. This is where the X800pro will shine the most as well.

As you can also see from recent events the FSAA Quality on the R420 is going to simply cream the crap out of the nv40 series. This is where the Biggest wins will come. The Wierd issues some people are seeing with "temporal" AA by driver hacking it on, will not be an issue on the R420. Also the FPS are 2-3X higher thus 12xT and even 18xT are going to be very playable in the majority of games.

However.. Thats only scratching the surface as far as what R420 will offer.

Also a link to the ATI invite re the R420 release party with a small link at the bottom to the 'Ruby Tuesday' promo.

Things are certainly going to be interesting if any of Hellbinders comments are accurate.

I found it interesting enough. cheers psycho.

What does this mean? 2-3X higher than what? the 6800? or current cards? and what's this 12xT and 18xT?

btw, psycho, how's the home cinema going? did you decide on a system?

The nvidia 6800 can pump out 1.2 gigatesellertrons per second, like ati can match that.

Digitalwanderer sent off an email to ATI half heartedly questioning the rumour that NDA's would be lifted on the R420 on the 26th April. Funnily enough he got a response from ATI themselves..altho bugger all info a few little bits to tide us over.

I like red boards. :)

I don't know where this 26th date came from (to be honest it was never the 26th). So, you won't hear anything from anyone under NDA today. But, I don't want you to suffer unnecessarily, so here are a few details to tide you over.

1) The board is red
2) There will be an X in the name (maybe even 2)
3) You won't be disappointed in the performance
4) You will still be able to run it in your shuttle
5) It won't consume as much power as the space shuttle (or a competitor's card for that matter)
6) Did I mention that the board is red?

Hope that keeps you sane for the next little while. Have patience my friend - it will be worth the wait

You went for Jamo speakers there I see.... tut tut. :P

Don't rule out an upgrade in the future, though! :)

Actually I am very happy with them, they are as good if not better than my big Krix babies I have out in the other room. They perform excellenty in the room they are in..a little too well as they nearly shake the bloody house down. :)

Got the Marantz for $800..got some pretty good reductions on stuff cause I was buying a s***load I guess.

One thing I can report is that I went thru two, count 'em 2 Dgtec STB in four days, complete s*** they were. I had all new quad cabling installed and a digital aerial and they simply could not handle the signal strength I am getting. HN were excellent and refunded my money and sourced a very nice Toshiba HD STB (sa23r) that rocks.

The HT thing is a bit of a addiction at the mo, I havent played a computer game for almost 3 weeks..been watching too many movies.

I also got an LG DVD recorder (as well as the Pioneer, thats them stacked on the far left) and its a very nice piece of kit as well.

man although it probably wouldnt quite rival the sound system which also resides in the same place i live in, i dont own it... and i dont often get to use it.. in fact costing over three grand for the speakers and amp and mixer-thingie, with the tv and dvd and everything else seperate... someone is a little concerned about me using it to its potential ;)

Im glad you got something with some balls though! its good to see a soundsystem that can actually play things loud... and not just some bass sub-woofer kick with no middle or high quality treble (ie computer speakers)

hehe =D

I bet that makes watching TV enjoyable on a screen that large however =D

also, im sure ati have something, though the replies here are skeptical.. i would assume they are probably a bunch o' nVidia lovers.

;]

I like the launch of new things, makes things that are good now, affordable soon.

Nice setup. Now back on topic :)

I'd be very surprised if ATi can't at least match the performance of the 6800. Considering their track record over the last 18 months-2 years since the Radeon 9700s hit the market they've been bloody awesome.

What I find ironic is the people complaining about "paper specs" and they'll believe it when they see it. ATi haven't released *anything* this is all leaked hype and heresay. And considering the hype surrounding the gffx range and their "paper performance" that was not matched in the real world, which company should you be complaining about?

I do think the 6800 is an impressive piece of kit though. I'm really looking forward to the next six months or so. I'll wait till both cards are out in volume and have had a revision or two before I make a decision *either* way.

up until the fx5800 nvidia had been doing awesome for 18-24months, from memory it was also their first 0.13m chip too - sounds like the x800, oh, and back then the leader in speed (9700) was released first and the slower one was released after a few "tweaks" and an "ultra" edition too - nvidia also released it as the ati killer as well

sound familiar? will history repeat itself (in the opposite way) or will ati pull it off and match and beat the 6800U?

edit - and lol physco - im just used to my ~150cm rear projection tv - might not be plasma but awesome quality and very big :)

The Sony isnt a plasma, never saw much in my price range that could match the HDTV, its a CRT and IQ is outstanding. Pic makes it look like its thin but it aint, its one big heavy mutha (88Kgs)

Got it for $4950. Retails for $5999 but a lot of places have them for about 5.5k but its pretty easy to bargain them down.

I just bought a new Sony TV too, the latest 68cm WEGA flatscreen.

Just an analogue CRT in 4:3 (cause I'm poor), but I wanted to go Sony cause the FD trinitron tubes kick much buttocks.

I like your system lots Psycho :)

Also, ATi rock. My gut feeling is that I think they've got the go on Nvidia again.

physco - our 150cm one cost us like $4000 almost a year ago (think thats how long :/) and it came with free surround sound (fairly good LG ones, nothing like pro speakers tho) and a free dvd player too (again nothing special)

and yeah, they are fking heavy, and u can never tell how far back they go from the front

I have no doubt it will be better in some part but I believe most of this is just HYPE! as always,.

Plus Nvidia might just decide to bump the 6800 freqz up a bit I heard,.

The ones tested were 400mhz or something and apparently Nvidia could go upto as high as 600mhz (ddr or QDR or something)

I thought that I read on one of those reviews that the memory chips on the card were running over-spec.
- NaK0r -

no, they are running under-spec, nvidia have s***eloads of headroom on their chips, ati have now said they are relesing thier cards with 525 mem speed or whatever it is so they are at the "theoretical" limit of thier cards now
