Seems we wont be seeing HL2 for some time still, this smells funnily of cock up extrodinaire...maybe some of the Valve guys can get a job over at 3D Realms. :)

There is a post over at the Hl2 net forum with some hidden text spoilers, and an alledged comment from a German mag quoting Gabe Newell blaming the game slipping due to bad scheduling rather than the source theft.

Ah well I guess the next gen cards will be in shops by then and the game will run even better...yawn.

Maybe August, September...maybe even later

Gordon is a dweeb I never liked him as the character.

I thought HL1 was ordinary, and if it wasn't for CS it would have been forgotten a long time ago.

Maybe HL2, Duke Forever, and TeamFortress 2 will all be shipped together in 2010 :)

As long as Doom3 is still on the way I'm happy, in the meantime FarCry is keeping me busy - is it any good multiplayer? I haven't tried it.

Been playing Far Cry and just beat SP on easy (lazy ;) ) anyway was great fun!

Playing it now on the hardest setting. Man its crazy but good. Was looking at the map editor making a 4WD little rally map, its pretty simple to use too.

HL2 meh, it will come when it comes, atleast far cry is recent and along with BF:V theres heaps to hold me over until D3!

E3 soon anyway guys, will be interesting to see what who has.. etc... I believe Valves only chance is to show something beautiful at E3 and come up with a semi-realisitic release date and stop the lies.

Im really not sure what you mean by this, I think you've been reading the wrong sites.

The fact is that the developers never claimed that the source theft was the cause the delay. That was the publisher.
They did coverup the whole sep 30th 2003 bulls*** though.

But in that recent mag, Gabe f***ing apologised for the blaming of the source theft as the cause of the delay. As in, he was being honest.
What more do you people want?

Current rumours seem set on a sep 2004 release now, it's hardly a duke forever which has been in development for what, 6 years now?

People just need to shut up and let them make their game, nobody wants a rushed product.

EDIT: Gabe is fat

No I still play CS, but hey if something comes along which can generate the size of an online community that cs has i'll probably check it out. I hear this call of duty game is going mad guns, I might have to check it out.

If you think a community of those kinds of kids made CS good, you have really a large problem!

I cant sit in a server for more then a round without being forced to quit because of the abuse and stupidity that goes on.

Im sure its accecpted and welcome there, and thats what makes the multiplayer game.

i prefer a game where the majority of the players are able to converse about something while dead that is more then how 'ur mom' was this morning.

I wont go into more, even the old passworded servers arent worth going into, the game is so limited. so limited.... its like playing duckhunt with the ability to move left and right... but no real reason too. seriously its a two dimensional game (except for grenades). there is the x (left and right) and the y (up and down) and thats all you do.

how that made a community you ask? It happened to be a basic enough engine to run on every PC, and have an addiction cause ANYONE could play it. What skills does it involve? Even a newbie could come in get a couple of kills by mistake, and they would keep going.

I wouldnt judge a game on its comunity if i were you...

To tell you the truth, i hope HL2 has a better story... im really tired of a game where you walk forward following the set path to complete a mission... i suppose all the games ive played have been fairly linear...

like war3... and q3 didnt even have a plot which i find hillarious that they can take the fact its just always going to be an engine =p

skythra, I fear you play on the wrong servers then. I actually quit playing ra3 about 2 or 3 years ago and started playing CS because the "community" I was in was better than the ra3 one. When you died in CS people would say bl & stuff, sure there was the odd dickead random here & there, but in ra3 there'd be about 5 guys all come in at once, shoot at you, then all go haha suck s*** hope you enjoy dialup you poor homeless f*****.

Now in CS there's hardly any d*******s since I've found good servers to play on with good guys who don't usually stuff around, it all depends what you want from the game, or if you even realise it is just that, a game & meant to provide entertainment. Don't take it seriously. While dead the chit chat mostly doesn't contain mum's but often does still contain the letters bs or if one guy is left alive camping everyone will give him s*** behind his back.

then play something like riven, or mist or whatever. I played that in a shop once. You had to solve puzzles & s***, walk around checking stuff out.

Like what games trog? Far Cry, Deus Ex2 and UT2004 have been pretty good releases without huge show stopping bugs.

We know HL2 won't be like DN4ever because the source leak actually showed they had a fair amount of work done :) There's been nothing new on DN for ages now. Not even leaked screenies.

Be interesting to see which cutting edge game hits the market first...

HL2, Stalker (my current favourite) Doom3 or DN4.. any bets? :)

Far Cry with its patch-on-release day? I found a zillion bugs in Far Cry without even playing the whole way through it, and what I've heard about the multiplayer makes me shudder (in fact from what I can tell the problems in multiplayer have been 'show stopping'. I haven't played Deus Ex2 but have heard many negative comments about it.

I haven't tried UT2004 yet, but the demo rocked - s***, even the developers of Unreal had to get it right after 4 attempts at making the same game. (haha, yeh, that's a joke at UT, although I must confess I dig on ONS mode in UT2004).

All I'm saying is, if I was in charge of QA for these titles, there's no way I'd be putting them on the shelf. I'd rather Half-Life 2 be actually finished before its out, because I'm confident that no matter what, people are going to buy it anyway - no matter what state its in.

It's not the guys in charge of QA who let them get onto the shelves :)

I'm with Trog on the QA thing. Look at the fast an furious release of console games and the QA that can be achieved with a common platform, unlike PC's too many variables and OS release patch levels to be covered for total QA.

*shrugs* I had no dramas with Far Cry, but then I had no problems with the demo either when people were complaining about texture corruption and other issues.

This is gold! I never thought I'd see you say something nice about Unreal :)

If you were in charge of QA, you wouldn't have a say in the matter

We just test

We can jump up and down all we like saying "Fix this, fix that" ... but if the head-honchos say "Its done!" .. The game goes out, irrelvant of what QA has said

.... only to latter have QA blamed for a bad product (and slammed over stuff we had already found, but just wasnt fixed)
Aint it a bitch
