Topic: Movie you are most looking forward to and why?

After the f***ing awesome year of movies just behind us (Matrix, Terminator 3 and lotr:rotk) I feel somewhat empty at the lack of promise for future movies to entertain me. Personally, I don't think any movie will enthrall me as much as the lotr trilogy did, but who knows.

The movie I am most amped up about doesn't come out for ages, that movie being x-men 3. After watching x2 for the second time today, I f***ing can't wait to see what happens in the third. I am hoping s*** really hits the fan, and the huge battle scenes really do begin, but I think it will be cool anyway.

sometimes it definitely is cool to watch a movie you always "meant to watch" but never got around to it... some real gems you never got a chance to see can be almost as good as seeing a new flick

Pretty much what people have posted:
- Kill Bill Vol.2
- Van Helsing
- Troy (although I think they changed the name of it from Trog to Troy)
- Spiderman 2
- Shrek 2 because I read a review which says it's just as good and if not better than the first
- Chronicles of Riddick.

Alot of others coming out that look good, but these are the top of the list.

Oh yeah, Chronicles of Riddick definately, that looks freaking hardcore. Also, Alien vs Predator. I was dubious about it until I saw an interview with Paul Anderson (the director) and hes got some awesome ideas for it, so it should be good.

And Resident Evil 2, thats due out this year, can't forget that :)

ARhaha, the first one was the f***ing worst movie ever. The green goblin, WTF! It was the worst comic to movie not including dare devil

Seriously, are you on crack? Because describing Spiderman as the worst movie ever definately points towards some kind of crack addiction. Spiderman was easily one of the best comic book to movie translations yet (alongside X-men), and easily one of my favourite movies of that year.

I was open-minded until i saw that interview. Seems like the movie will be completely plot free, and just have loads of zombies predators and aliens running about killing people and each other.

How can anyone seriously be looking forward to that? M. Night Shyamamamamamamamalan has got a lot of f***ing making up to do after Unbreakable and Signs, and personally I dont hold a lot of faith that hes got what it takes. If this one is over-rated drivel like the last two then it will just put the final nail into his coffin. Sixth Sense really was just a fluke :(

Unbreakable pissed me off so much, it was just so ambiguous and so pointless; it never felt like it got going for me. It also felt a bit disjointed at times and just didn't seem to flow properly. It was an interesting concept but it was really poorly executed.

Signs wasn't THAT bad, but once again it was nowhere near as good as the trailers had made out. It started really well, and I was really enjoying it until they just show you the aliens, that takes all the mystery out of it then. I reckon it would have been a much better, much more effective movie if you never really saw the aliens, instead it just turned into some tacky "OMG ALIENS ARE INVADING, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES" type movie.

I was a bit over unbreakable until the end. I think they could have a done a bit more with the movie after he discovers his gifts and starts using them. I thought the ending was pretty good though, although the convo with Mr Glasses mum gave it away a bit.

I really liked the fact Unbreakable was so ambiguous. It was a selling point for me.

I'm looking forward to Hellboy, Helsing has my interest (but I don't hold much hope for it) and Chronicles of Riddick sounds interesting. But the one movie I'm really hanging out for is Bubba Ho-Tep. It's been out for ages but hasn't gotten wide distribution yet. Why am I keen to see it? Bruce Campbell as Elvis fighting an ancient Egyptian evil directed by Don Coscarelli (phantasm) based on a short story by Joe Lansdale. Yeah baby! And besides, I have a friend in Canada who saw it at the premiere (with Bruce Campbell) and he thought it was great.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to "pleasant surprises". No that's not a movie so don't go looking it up. I mean films like The Ring, or Session 9, or Frailty that come out of nowhere and you watch them and go "WOW!"

I think that was kinda his point, hence the theme music. I did find the ending kinda boring, but i liked the way they hid the aliens from the audience for most of the movie. Unbreakable sucked, though.

I watched a few preview dvd's over the weekend that I can highly recommend once they get released in the next couple of months.

- Japanese Story, stars Toni Collette
Against the background of an Australian desert landscape, so much space and so few people, Sandy, a geologist, and Hiromitsu, a Japanese businessman, play out a story of human inconsequence in the face of the blistering universe. The end of the journey leaves no-one capable of going back to where they started from.

Very f***ing cool movie. I thought it started off slow and was hoping it would pick up a bit and luckily it did. The overall pace of the film is slow but the story just gets better and better as it goes along. I can't recommend this movie enough and the last 20 or so minutes are really f***ing emotional.

- Gettin Square, stars David Wenham and Gary Sweet

This movie sorta reminded me of Dirty Deeds where there was the usual double-crossing with a bunch of smart and dumb criminals. However, I think it was really David Wenhams character that did it for me. Man, he played the best low life junky and his f***ing clothes were hilarious and not to forget his awesome mullett either. Another awesome Aussie movie which I highly recommend.

- Matchstick Men, stars Nicolas Cage, Alison Lohman and Sam Rockwell
Roy Waller is a simple man. He has a clean house, a routine to follow every morning, and a neurotic lifestyle that makes Jack Nicholson in As Good as It Gets seem normal. Roy partners with Frank Mercer, the complete opposite of Roy. Both men scam older people out of money as a career. When Roy's life gets thrown into a bit of a tumble when he has to go visit a psychiatrist about this obsessive compulsive life, things start to turn bad. When Roy meets his long lost daughter, Angela, it seems to get worse, but ends up better. Roy starts teaching Angela the routine of scamming and begins to find that she's catching on and helping out more than he expected (for him and his business).

This film was made by Ridley Scott and it was something I hadn't heard of until I saw the preview sitting at work. Definately better than the crap that was Master & Commander (something else I also watched on the weekend but hated). Definately recommend this movie as well although it does start off rather slow it turns out to be a great movie. The ending is f***ing excellent too, so I wont say anything else about it in case I ruin it.

- Blue Car, stars David Strathairn and Agnes Bruckner
Gifted 18-year-old Meg (Bruckner) has been abandoned by her father and neglected by her hardworking mother. Left to care for her emotionally disturbed younger sister, her world begins to unravel. She finds an outlet in writing poetry and support from her English teacher, Mr. Auster (Straithairn). But what started out as a mentoring relationship begins to get a bit more complex.

This was another flick I had no idea about. Twas the second movie on one of the previews and by looking at the cover it doesn't look anything special. It's a good feeling when you decide to watch something and find out it's really an amazing film. This is pretty much a chick flick but if you don't mind sitting thru stuff like this I can't recommend this enough. The only thing I didn't like about this one was the teacher actually getting it on with the girl near the end of the movie. It really didn't need it, it didn't ruin the movie but I felt it could have been done better if that hadn't of happened.

So you guys should know by now I have awesome taste in movies and if you're looking for something cool to watch these movies are worth it. None of these are big blockbusters and you might have to look a bit harder to see them on the shelves, not like the crap that is Legally Blonde 2 with it's 40 f***ing dvd covers tarnishing the shelves.

8-)

Also one last thing, there is a new movie coming out next month and it's called It Runs In The Family. It stars Michael Douglas, Kirk Douglas and Cameron Douglas. You've probably guessed they're all related. This movie is complete drival and should be left alone and sent straight to the weekly section. The thing that really erked me about this movie was Kirk Douglas. Now back in the 50,s thru to the 80's he made alot of good movies and should be commended. But these days he's just usless and bogs down anything. It's obvious that sometime ago he had a stroke and now has some type of speech impediment and this is what ruins the movie. You really can't understand a f***ing thing he says anytime he says something. It really is quite embarrasing for all involved and although it's a "cute" idea to get the sons of a well-known family together in one movie, this just doesn't work at all. So hopefully this type of thing wont happen again and we can all get on with our lives.

I liked the fact they howed you the aliens. Otherwise it would have been like every other movie that would work material like that.
Khel
Posts: 6945

But showing the aliens took all the suspense out of the movie! Especially considering they were dumb looking, naked green men. If they'd showed the aliens, and the aliens were hardcore, and it led to some hardcore scenes with them trying to escape the aliens, then that would be cool. Instead, it just ruined the only thing it had going for it (the psychological suspense angle) and replaced it with nothing of substance.

Of course, the fact that a race of aliens who are killed by water decide to invade a planet that is 75% covered in water is a pretty huge flaw in the movie from the word go.

My Lack of faith ISN'T disturbing :

Ep1 = rancid dog turd baking in the
sun.

Ep2 = the son of rancid dog turd baking in the sun. (except for the 30 odd unoriginal seconds that Yoda
goes Matrix on Lord Dookie's ass)

What is disturbing is that George Lucas and his zombie fanboy legions actually think he can direct.

Khel: I totally agree with u about "Signs". It was a very stylish piece of s***! I honestly dont know how the f*** it even got made with its monumentally stupid plot flaw.
I mean honestly after all the Movie Aliens that we have watched for the last 30-40 yrs. All M.Nite Shamalan
could come up with was Nude Little Green Men who can be mutilated with a glass of water that come to Earth (which has a surface of 2/3 water)armed only with Fart Gas. To top it all off they can be beaten to Death with wooden Baseball Bats. Not bad for creatures that are so advanced that they have travelled Through space to invade Earth.

I liked Blade and Blade 2, they were both pretty cool in their own ways, and Wesley Snipes is a bit of a hardcore muthaf***er when hes playing Blade. The third one sounds interesting, but considering I haven't seen any trailers or anything like that for it, I'm not bothering to get hyped about it yet.

The story is really tongue in cheek. Heck it's about an evil egyptian spirit that sucks your soul out through your ass (I wanna know how they deal with that in the movie)!

Lansdale does write some really gut wrenching stuff. But Bubba Ho-Tep is definitely more fun than frights. I hate ordering stuff from O/S but I might break my rule for that DVD...
