Somehow in discussions last night the subject of things ppl do in retirement came up and I had the following funny thaught.

Forty years from now, Instead of Bowls and Golf, will our retirement home central halls echo to the sounds of geriatrics yelling "HAH! 0WNED n00b!!" while engaged in Doom 14 multiplayer mode?

What will our grandkids think? :)

They will think we suck at the games and will be owning us :D
Or they will think why we still use the mouse and keyboard, the differnce between old skool and new school will be in the controling devices :p

And we wont be complaining about how the latest games are not as good as the old ones, because we wont remember them. Everyday will be like a new game! w00t :D

Well i dont think i'll stop playing video games for a long time yet. When i decide to have kids i'll get them into video games and computers as such.

the only prob. which may happen to some of us is the dulling of our eyes.

the electrons shoot from the guns through the shadow mask hitting the phosphor dots, lighting them up, then the electrons keeps going hitting the back of our eyeballs...

have you ever gone to bed after a big gaming session and have watering/sore/feeling a bit hot eyes..

yep, its that over bright monitor bombarding your eyeballs with electrons.

LCD monitors don't have this effect on your eyes as it gets lit up by a cool cathode backlight.

hmmm.. by the time we are all that old we will not need eyes, just a com. jack in the back of your head.

I'm with Primal. I reckon it'll be matrix style jacking in :) The QGL Retirement Home will look like a coma ward in a hospital with a bunch of wrinkled old people lying in beds hooked to machines going "bing" - a catheter hooked up and a drip feeding intravenous jolt :)

My eyes are imune to monitors!

Ppl at tafe would cry about them after 2hrs and need to walk away cause of sore eyes

I could sit at a monitor for 30hrs+, no worries :)

I sort of only get into games now if they are REALLY good. I gotta be in the mood. Its a bit of a shame. Still, I dont mind playing a bit so that should prolly not change. I cant see myself still playing games when I am 70.

yeah I read something ages ago and part of it said "the people of our great grandparents played shuffleboard in their retirement years, we will play quake" or something like that. If I ever get too weak to lift my own hands to a keyboard or do stuff for myself I don't think I'd wanna be alive. I've seen old people that just sit in a wheelchair all day not moving (not being able to move). I don't wanna end up like that.
