KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Reuters) -- A Malaysian government minister has called on Islamic authorities to ban Hollywood actor Jim Carrey's latest film "Bruce Almighty," newspapers reported on Tuesday.

In the comedy, Carrey plays the role of a television reporter who is given the power of God for a week.

"It's not appropriate to show the film in this country," Abdul Hamid Zainal, a minister in the Prime Minister's Department, was quoted as saying.

The minister said censors should refer the film to the Islamic Affairs Department to decide whether it should be screened. Just over half of Malaysia's 24 million people are Muslim.

"We cannot equate ourselves with God -- even as a joke," Abdul Hamid said.

That's their culture. It does not impact on your life. There are countries in Europe which allow sexual intercourse with animals and 14 year old children. I hardly see how this has any significance in the big picture.

sure you can.... if it's prohibited seeing it through a religious prespective then its just is you cant help that.

Besides im sure there are other people objecting to its ideals besides "islamics" but maybe they werent game enough to stand up and say anything about it who knows....

Also like Twisted said, it's not affecting you so there's no need to bitch about it.

and for ffs it's Muslims. Im sure you've heard enough s*** given to them from the media.....

Just recently a movie was banned in Australia at a movie festival, the same movie won a Cannes Award, yet we felt fit to ban it. So the peoples of Europe must think we are a bunch of dicks for banning the movie.

None of you are capable of choosing what's best for yourselves, you all require censorship - to claim otherwise is self-hallucination and worthy of shock-therapy. It's so funny to see you getting so indignant about it, when all you're doing is showing how much you need to be told what to do.

That's fine, and I'm happy to agree with that. Just so long as they respect the fact that if they come to THIS country - or leave their own, that they respect the rights and beliefs of the population that lives in that country. Which they generally don't unfortunately.
They spread and try to further spread their BS beliefs sadly :(

gumby if you think thats being racist then you a f***ing moron !

i can't stand all the hype over racism ect. ect.

"examples" your brand of "racism" includes lame things like abo's instead of aboriginals the chinese calling western visiters gui-lo (translation white ghost) ect ect

wtf is wrong with you? if i called an african american a negro and he called me white trash its racist. what a f***en load of bs!! its just as bad as using profanity in my books. which is HARMLESS

im not saying racism is cool eg hitler brand, but things like name calling ect being racist is silly. where does the censorship stop?

its just like another current thread about movie censorship. where does it stop?

yes i agree we need "some" censorship and we shouldn't condone "some" forms of racism but s*** ... where do we draw the line in the sand?

racism is a term used too frequently and tiny insignificant actions or words are being harshly censored and monitored. double standards have taken over. if i call an african american a n***** i get a phat racist sticker on my forehead, BUT if i got called white trash by an african american thats cool.

anyway in summary the term racism doesnt mean anything it used to and people use it too much to characterise politically incorrect statements.

GreyMATr realy now there is a BIG difference between Extreamist Muslims and normal Muslims.

Extreamist Muslims often don't even follow the true muslim law (not that In know it but a documentary I saw enlightened me on the issue) often they mis-understand the meaning and well currupt themselves.

Non the less I don't have a issue with Muslims, however I have a big issue with those so call muslims who use the muslim word for excuse to commit great acts agaist god/life.

yes it was. they gave the wrong reason for banning it. it's a f***ing stupid movie, it's worthy of banning because it isn't worth watching.

subjective, of course.

One of the problems with Islam (and *ANY* religion - including christianity) is the more extremist ppl tend to wind up in power because they are outspoken and push the hardest. They then tend to dictate the situation to the general populace who probably don't give a stuff one way or the other. Just look at Senator Harradine's impact on Australian politics. :(

I really think anyone should be able to see a movie or not based on their own personal beliefs. And there needs to be a worldwide accord on things that are not on - the bestiality that someone jokingly mentioned before for example...

Im sure people could prolly tell what the movie is gonna be about through commericials, newspapers, internet whatever... so in my opinion its not so much of a problem for people who object to it's content when it comes to movies like Bruce Almighty. It's content is obvious and if you dont wanna watch it then dont. Personal preference has been mentioned before and thats mainly where im kinda comming from.

However a while back, someone forwarded me an email regarding The Matrix: Reloaded before it was released in cinemas. Apparently it said that there was going to be a character in the movie with the name of ALLAH >:( and the email urged all muslims not to go watch it and not support the movie.

Personally i thought that was a whole hunk of bs cause i wasnt expecting a movie like the matrix to directly come up with such a lame narrow minded f***ed up attempt at degrading Islam and Muslims. I was going to watch it anyway despite all that and to find out whether it was true or not.

If it had been then i would have burnt the cinema down but that's just me, and lucky for them it wasnt.... Atleast i didn't hear anything about it :/ lil jokes here and there while maybe rude and racist, they are not worth burning cinemas down, but naming a character after GOD is dangerous especially if your refering to muslims...

Basically my point is it should be up to your personal preference to choose what you wanna watch and dont watch. It is sometimes obvious what the content of the movie is going to be about, other times it isnt so clear and that can get in the way of people who dont wanna watch it for whatever reason. I dont think there are too many people on this forum who fall under that category but that's my 2cents anyway.
