After two absolutely fantastic nights of footy I am again proud to be a Queenslander! :)
Friday Night: Broncos v Roosters at Lang Park I suppose I should start by admitting that it is now Suncorp Stadium. There's not enough of Lang Park left - short of the location itself - to continue to refer to it as such. But this is not necessarily a bad thing - the place impressed me immensely and I look forward to going there again soon (Origin III - QLD's revenge! :P ) The atmosphere was pretty intense considering there was only 29,000 people, so I can't begin to imagine what the Origin will be like. Here's a panoramic pic from my seat before the game - lang_park.jpg (494Kb) In the end it was a good night with the Broncos coming away victors. Saturday Night: Lions v Tigers at The Gabba My first AFL game for over a year and it was great to be back! It's a lot harder to get tickets now than it used to be - we always used to just rock up on game day and get some general admission tickets at the gate, and find a seat - usually about six rows back behind the posts. Funny what a couple of premiership wins does to your attendance figures. :) Here's another panoramic shot - gabba.jpg (558Kb) Once again it was a good night with our local boys picking up a convincing win. We seemed to be sitting amongst a considerable amount of Richmond supporters who did not take kindly to their side's defeat - one female supporter punched the back of the chair in front of her! So all up it was a good weekend, with both local teams proving that they shouldn't be written off just yet despite their form of late. It was also great to visit both Lang Park and The Gabba in the same weekend to compare the two, with both of them being first-class sporting venues regardless of their small-ish seating capacities compared to their interstate counterparts. |

Pity rugby is crappy :P necra is the Broncos fan in our house - before this weekend I'd only been to one league game since I started going to watch the Lions and that bored the crap out of me. But it's different at Suncorp Stadium - you're so close that you feel almost a part of the game. |

I have a bit of a rant to do with Suncorp Stadium and how half of f***ing milton shuts down whenever a football game is on.
I wanted to go to officeworks on friday at about 7pm. FAT f***ING CHANCE, Milton road was closed, cribb street was closed. So in order for me to get to officeworks, I had to go the entire back way around behind the brewery, and then get questioned by 2 different police traffic cops, why I was going doing a closed road with a local traffic only sign. It really s*** me off that half a suburb shuts down over some meatheads kicking a ball around a field which should have been at the RNA showgrounds area (trafic and public transport was already setup for that area) Bah I hate suncorp stadium anyway. |
