Firing Squad have given this a huge review. 96% rating in fact, highest rating they have given a FPS. Anyone played this? is it THAT good and if so are there local servers for it? Some of the reviewers comments:-

I rated Battlefield 1942 lower than it deserved for its myriad of technical problems. Enemy Territory has no such problems. Enemy Territory is also the first multiplayer game to make me completely abandon Battlefield. In fact I haven’t played a multiplayer shooter so much since Quake and Tribes. If that’s not saying something, I don’t know what is.

and this...

This is not one of, not possibly, but the best multiplayer first-person shooter on the market. Quake and Tribes will just have to make room in my heart for another favorite classic, the kind of game that keeps me awake until 3am and wakes me half an hour early just to get an extra bit of play time before work calls. And to top it off, it’s free.

Comments please before I go grab the 270 meg d/load.

*heh I just noticed the first pic in that review 'Calling artillery' check the voice text at the bottom.

Enemy Territory is awesome, it doesn't have many faults (if any) that I could find.
Well worth the download.

yeh, it rocks, totally.

and local servers, cogs has 8 of them with a total capacity of 126 players. full most of the time.

the noobs spoil most games right now, give them a few months to actually learn how to play it properly and this will rock twice as hard.

very good game, theres actually team work required in this one, and you get rewarded for acting like a team.

v41!

yeah the game is awesome. The balance is just perfect, there's plenty of variety, and it uses the goodness of the Q3A engine which means flawless network performance, good frame rates, and solid physics.

Highly recommend ET. Imo its the best multiplayer fps atm (replacing rtcw which im a little tired of) and better yet its free. Go get it and jump on the GA servers.

Also, heres a guide for noobs which you may find helpful http://games.telstra.com/gamearena/community/messageboards/3122/index.php?action=show&id=1728604

When it first came out it was bug city. It's still a long way from perfect, and it's admin tools and such are pretty lacking.

Battlefield's vehicle implementation rocks, but it's infantry implementation just plain sucks.

It still is bug city. I gave up on BF1942 long ago because of its completely pathetic software and I will not being playing it until they bring it into the modern world of games.

To me enemy teritory doesnt come close to bf1942 and its mods, I guess people have diferent choices and ET while fun isnt THAT fun

I find shootind down an AC130 with artilerty much more fun than skipping around shooting funny guns

but ET is free so give it a go you may like it, its got a solid engine and nice graphics for a free game

i disagree

i have zero issues with infantry implementation
bullets go where i want them to

i dont really care for the admin side of things, as i just play, im not setting up servers or anything like that so it doesnt interest me;

battlefield still has the best environments easily, the maps are realistic and look awesome

this makes the imersion factor high for me and thats what i look for in a game, i want to forget that im playing a game, and want it to be real;

people keep talking about all these bugs, but i aint really hearing much about them, i havent seen any bugs listed for bf1942 in this thread that effect my online gaming experience

feel free to point them out to me . . . .

Even with the "bugs" it still beats pretty much every other game out!

The funny thing for me is, I spent my last 300mb on this freeware game (standalone), and I love it, bar the if-fy 10 frames per second (yes i know, this is myself and my beasty computer's problem ;)) - it's great! That must be saying something positive if I'm still playing it on a low fps :)

i gave up on battlefield as well, its just missing something.

I agree the infantry fighting completely blows in BF, i went back to playing dod.
IMO dod has or HAD the best WWII infantry gameplay out of everything. That is before they released the latest patch, that completely massacred it and i aint playing it anymore until the gameplay is fixed to an acceptable standard or i shall await dod2 :)

I'll give ET a burn when i can get a hold of it.. f*** you optus!

Your disk is probably full?

Another reason not to use i.e. to download stuff, it downloads to a temp dir first ( on c: by default) so it doesnt matter how much space is free on your target drive.

What's wrong with the spawn times in your opinion?

It's a great game, But unfortunatly most of the servers are full of n00b's

You do get quite a few who will spawn camp and/or complain (And therefore get you kicked) for running over a flag (mine) /Sigh.

Psycho!: if you spot me on the servers, team up with me and I'll help ya out. This is the best way to learn to play - one person goes FieldOp, and the other goes Medic, and they stick together, the fieldop supplying ammo and taking point, and the medic providing health boosts and revives to the FieldOp, whilst taking the rear position.

Scooter: spawn camping is seen as a perfectly legitimate in wolfies, given that in many maps it's basically essential to completing objectives. The thing I dislike is when teams are massively and very obviously unbalanced, and people refuse to swap sides. Can't do much about it though, cept go panzer and piss them off :D

i dont like it at all it feel like playing dod with gumby characters and retarded weapons, the QIII physics just do not seem right...

battlefield and dod still beat it hands down IMO.

and for some reason its giving me REALLY crappy frames like an average of 30-40 fps out in the open areas with a 2100+ @ 2.1 ghz and a GF4 Ti 4200 at stock speeds... It does look pretty but my friend on same specs but GF3 ti 500 seems to be pulling better.
thats medium detail and far draw dist and 32 bit textures :/

if you tie the hands and legs of ET, it could still beat BF and DoD combined.

whats the sys requirements on this? Same as RTCW? Hows it play on dialup?
orbitor
Posts: 4637

riot'us: it plays as well as any quake 3 based game on dialup. So that means it's really good for dialup, but you'll still be pissed at the LPBs :D

The game runs fine in low detail on a 1GHz GF2 machine.

I've been playing it since yesterday...damn fun. Except that I have f*** all idea. Usually just run around as a medic. Get f***-all kills.

Needs more maps tho.

Thanks mate :)
I've been in clan Oxygen since the release of the original Return to Castle Wolfenstein, so that's more than 18 months. In that time we have had heaps of players come through - even trog joined us for some time :) O2 were the GA RTCW Season 2 champions.
