I Caddy for a normal IDE HDD. Within the Caddy I have have a 20gig IBM HDD.
Now the green power light on the front of the caddy is on and the red hdd usage lights flickers sometimes. But the computer can't see the drive. During bootup it won't come up in the bios, and its not being detected within windows.
I take the drive out of the caddy, and it detects it fine.

I take it that the caddy is screwed. But why is there a Powerlight on it and hdd activity?

Because the activity light also picks up whatever else is on that channel

i had the exact same problem, with a Laser branded one, went and got it replaces then it worked fine. your caddy is stuffed.

my first hdd isn't on the same cable as the one on the caddy.
the caddy is on with my cdrom. no activity coming from cdrom. oh well. caddy was second hand anyhow.

the caddy is f***ed!! mine did the same. it f***ed around with the HD so much i took it out and all the probs went away.. biggest pos ever.
