While on the topic of cable modems.
The type that was installed at my place about 3 months ago (Brisbane, Northern Suburbs) when i signed up for O@H was a General Instruments(aka Motorola) Surfboard 3100 (DOCSIS 1.1 compliant).
More info on this modem is available at:

snot any good unless they actually change me over to the docsis network

and the only time that happens is when the guy they send out has first run out of motorolla modems, then has just cause to switch me over to the network.

You can use any account on either network .. they don't have to "change over" your account to either network afaik. I've tried mine on a Docsis and it works.

So you're saying, that if I get rid of my motorolla and put in the docsis one, it will put me straight onto the docsis network?

Its a public internet forum, what were u expecting, maturity?
Saint got it right, this is a chance to get onto the low traffic network.
like a 3 gig limit isn't going to kill all the traffic

actually primal he's right : )

I was actually signed up on motorolla - i still have the motorolla. I bought the docsis one a couple of weeks ago, and all you have to do is ring up and have the mac address enabled for your account.

The modem was originally issued by Telstra so it's all good.

stez they actually ring up to have to modem activated, it is not for the account it is for the modem. you can have any account on any modem that is registered with telstra. The likely hood that this modem has been taken off of the telstra netkork is pretty ihgh if he has unsubscribed from telstra. herefore the modem won't work.

Also you can't just plug a modem into any old house that has a foxtel/telstra outlet and hope it will work, the house also has to be activated. we tried this at sprinkles old house when we had a lan there and the cable light just flashed.

yeah thats true...im not sure if it was a f***up on my behalf, but i unplugged the modem from one outlet in the house, and moved it to where the foxtel outlet next to the tv was, and all i got was a flashing cable light

I also have a telscum cable modem 4 sale. Its the latest one.

It is the same ones QGL use at the lans. If anyone is interesting, i will consider.

Starting offer is 50 dollars ono. Since it gives you a whopping discount on your installation, and you can go for a 3 month contract with no penalty.
